ARTPOPSYCHOLOGY 6,239
I'm soon happy there are Florence fans on here !! I have been going through such a diffucult time in my life, and usually am when most of my favs release albums. ARTPOP was released when my life was a total **** storm, but it really helped me escape reality, and only Dope & Gypsy really truly resonated with me, the album truly functioned as more of an uplifter and it was gaga so duh!!BUTT with HBHBHB, Florence is my second favorite and I often feel she is SOOO underrated as both a lyricist, artist, performer, writer. Although Ceremonials was only her sophomore album and was nominated for two Grammy's, she isn't THAT well known unless there is some mainstream EDM **** done to her songs, which i Don't mind, but this album needs to be heard by literally everyone. This is the deepest album I have ever heard in my 23 years of existence and that is no stan-exaggeration. Im going through such difficulty in my love life and her songs (Queen of Peace, Make up your mind, Caught, Hiding) all describe every emotion so perfectly. The variation of the production makes it feel soooooo different from her prior two records while still remaining with that constant reminder of how epic of a singer and writer she is. I pray to god that this album finds itself in the mainstream spotlight, and artists like Taylor releasing 1989 (which i liked) have literally N O T H I N G on this album. Everyone needs to hear it. Rolling Stone better match its Ceremonials review with a 4/5 stars because this truly deserves it. The pain Florence went through, overcame, and then releasing this album is just incredibly indicative of the artist she is!!
ARTPOPSYCHOLOGY 6,239
Idk if anyone cares haha but this is my review for this album: I've been waiting for this album perched (and a little pressed to join the ATRL discussion board to share the experience ) for the last 4 months. This album orchestrates really nicely, it does extremely well mixing just perfectly the instruments and her voice without overdoing it. I can see a lot of the production being in the likes of albums I already LOVE a lot which are the Arcade Fire last two released albums and Lana's Ultraviolence. I have already fallen in love with this album because it just feels very familiar, in both new and old FATM territory. Ship to Wreck and What Kind of Man were both feeling so fresh when I had already heard them, and I know I will keep loving them. Sets a good mood for the album. Then comes the title track: It's LIVE, it lives, it breathes, it feels fresh in the best way possible. The lyrics are amazingly good, her voice and instruments breathe along what I could say the golden eras of the 60s, very happy altogether and I can tell this must be a MONSTER performer. I can already feel the track speaking religiously to me, and Flo herself must have felt VERY happy when se did this song cause I can feel it EVERYWHERE, TRIUMPH! Queen of Peace: AHHH! Yes, very good, the vocal layers are BEAUTIFUL, it feels electronic in the sense of the guitar arrangement in general but VERY rocky and 70s in a way. The verses are KILLERS, bring me many nostalgic feelings and it's just Florence finding her hope from her pain in losing someone/something. The brass is excellent and adds that nice groovy feeling to it. Various Storms & Saints: Guitars + Violins + angelic chants = her voice is well fit and dances around the instruments, it sounds like a gospel winner, it feels very sad, this is Florence feeling helpless, lost, speaking to herself from her sorrow. Delilah: Well, my my, this is a big winner in the catchy for life in the feels of Dog Days Are Over and Shake it Out. This is where she starts realizing out from her pain and of course 'dancing along life'. I can kind of see why used 'Delilah' the biblical character as a way to describe her relationship with a man that she loved. The feels are still verrrry groovy in the music and the organ KILLS me. Long & Lost: The guitar arrangement kills me in this one, layered up with that niiice piano and if what I hear is right there's also some brass in this? make this amazingly pleasant, it feels very atmospheric a la London Grammar way. The lyrics are good, contrasting her love with running away and missing home. Caught: GROOOOOOOVE all the way, in a different way, running all along the song is some sort of keyboard that gives it that groovy feeling, sunny, colorful, and that guitar AHH. Lyrics in here are good, I guess she is talking here about her feeling caught because she can't forget her love even though she badly wants to. Third Eye: Makes me feel alive not as alive as the title track, but it feels like a shimmer of hope, also very late 60s and catchy. I can see why people say it is very Fleetwood Mac, and it does live up to the name, it's fun and catchy, and them lyrics are to be screamt when sang. <3 goooooood. St. Jude: I feel like this song and the title track are already my all time favorites. The arrangement is so stripped back but has the best atmospheric feeling ever done with just an organ, trumpets, and a very minimal heart-beating sound. The lyrics feel like she is praying for a heap of hope, thus using St. Jude for this. Mother: Groovy then that literally speaking 'electrifying' guitar comes in and hell breaks loose. It starts getting very Psychedelic as each second passes by. What caught my attention the most, the lyrics, AHH such a contrast between 'Mother' nature and her love life. Hiding: The lyrics, very simple and I can relate to this a lot when I get into relationships, Why do you hide that part of you I want to see the most? Being pushed away from that. This is the most pop leaning song next to Queen of Peace and Third Eye. Make Up Your Mind: WOW. The perfect way to describe this: This sounds like Ceremonials and Lungs had a baby. The perfect baby btw. The lyricism is also very relatable. This says, hey! Think twice, before I leave and you regret it. The harp goes hard on this along that piano on the last section of the song. Which Witch: All I'm saying, the instrument arrangment give it this very chaotic, dark feel. I don't wanna assume anything about the lyrics yet but she uses a witch trial to describe a feeling or something. It's a nice track. Awesome review!! I agree with all of your comments!! Microscope 710
Just listened to HBHBHB. Its very different from Ceremonials. They swapped out the godly harp and strings for a concert band and woodwind ensemble. Personally not a huge fan of that swap. The album is pretty decent though but I'll have to give it a few more listens to properly judge. Ceremonials still keeps Flo's #1 spot in my heart. Take my hand. Stay, Joanne.
