idk this seems kind of crappy and misguided. yeah her take on the Macklemore situation was bad, but she has done genuinely good things for people while supporting UNICEF, and it's not her who suffers if she gets booted.

Agreed. Her views were ridiculous and conflated, but why should another charity for other causes suffer just because of that?

yeah. it's two completely different things. removing any helpful hand, let alone a famous one who still actively advertises the organization at her concerts, is so not the right move imo

 

also I hate the "let's take their jobs away" punishment culture that's so prevalent in American social media when people have differing views. it wasn't cool when Melissa Barerra lost her Scream gig, and this isn't cool either

I wonder how long it’ll be before the performative nature spreads to people wanting to boycott even other charities they have/represent; essentially taking away from one cause to help another. I can totally see that coming.

I don't think this will make the charity suffer. UNICEF is world renowned and well known. They have a mission to protect children globally, and if one of their most prominent ambassadors takes an issue with people not wanting children of a certain ethnicity to be harmed then they should act. Plus, Zionists and/or far right figures get to take away jobs from left leaning people all the time, so in my eyes stuff like this is karma.

I completely agree, but what happens when they (inevitably) don’t remove her involvement from it? Do people start boycotting the charity? And claim the charity is run by Zionists? Because then that opens a massive can of worms and exposes how performative a lot of people are.

I mean this is a fair point too, but I think UNICEF of all orgs will be okay. I would still support UNICEF with or without Pink.

Okay whether intentional or not, that's a bit of a misrepresentation of her views, but I really don't feel like defending her. I read her long novel-ass instagram post, and that's not what she took issue with

Even so, I just don’t see them removing her, because she does more good for them being an ambassador than not. Whether we think it or not; her fame and name alone has helped them and helped them raise funds. And even if she only just helps them make 1% of their funds, that 1% could help hundreds of thousands of kids—which is more valuable than not.

I just think, sure don't stream her music and don’t attend her concerts etc (things that primarily affect her) but don’t remove her from something ACTUALLY good she does tbh.

she’s a d list celebrity who hasn’t had an attention cycle hit in over a decade. she isn’t a CEO, she’s just an influencer, obviously. i don’t understand what job someone more famous couldn’t out-do her in.
