Was TCB tour a wake up call?

I always wondered if the Chromatica Ball Tour was a reminder for Gaga of her strength and power, after the release of Chromatica, which had so many ups and downs. The brutalist setup and the contrast with the era being so colorful was made on purpose, because I feel she changed the trajectory of that era, and this is also where she found peace within herself that she couldn't separate herself from the past. I also believe this is where Mayhem became tangible for her around that time, mainly due to the darker side of the tour, aligning with some of the songs she was working on for Mayhem. Thoughts?

Yeah that's pretty much what she said. The tour made her feel in control of her creativity, Michael saw how happy she was and that prompted the work for Mayhem

It's crazy because it really feels like Chromatica and TCB were almost 2 different versions of the same era. I think something shifted in Gaga between the album and the tour, and she realized the colorful vision wasn’t fully her anymore maybe

Yeah I think the original version was very on the nose for an alien theme and not really infused with the kind of symbolism typical of Gaga's work. Even with the lore that we eventually got (the tribes and the map of the planet) it felt more like a shiny facade with very little to say about the world itself. TCB was much more interesting IMO

The tribe idea was cool and interesting, it represents the whole fight on earth perfectly... the brutalist architecture at The Chromatica Ball looked insane 🩷 fits perfectly...

Agreed, and I always feel for bad for saying this, but the brutalist aspect of it, I kinda liked it more than the Mayhem Ball

I have been very interested in the brutalist architecture style lately and when it meets pop, with the light and spectacle of LG, it just looks monumental. It's ok, everyone has it's one taste. I think I also like the setting of TCB more than the setting of MAYHEM Ball...

Yes. I don’t think we’d get Mayhem without Chromatica and TCB. Chromatica and TCB is as integral to Mayhem as Joanne is for ASIB, and (to a lesser and much more far reaching extent) ARTPOP to Cheek to Cheek.

Chromatica definitely felt like a final purge

When she came back with Chromatica she seemed lighter, like she was carrying a lot less, finally content in her life and with her partner and where she's at in her career, at terms with her fame

I think while she exploded into her 30's with ARTPOP, she calmly glided into her 40's with Mayhem with a newfound sense of steadfast resilience

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I always felt like Chromatica was the era of her finally unshackling herself from the need to appease other people. She made an existential album into a dance album—for other people, she then spent the entire pandemic helping other people—only for most of that humanitarian work to be forgotten about a year later (whilst celebrities were making a goddamn John Lennon cover she was trying to help the WHO and literally changed the scheduled Chromatica promo billboards in praise of essential workers), she then exorcised some demons on the tour and at the end of it finally felt ready to commit to a true pop album again, and then started making music that was untethered to an “outfit” as she put it or sound.

I always say; Joanne was her coming of age album. Mayhem is her womanhood album and it has book ended what I call “Act One of The Gaga Odyssey”. So now we’re in act 2 of her life and career.

We’ve left the “Maiden” time of her life (20-40) and now we’re in the aptly named “Mother” time of her life (40-60) and then the “Crone” phase (60-80).

this is crazy but I always felt like TCB was almost a spiritual experience where she regained her power and reconnected with that star version of herself. It also feels like the ARTPOP era created a big trauma for her, and she kinda shut that part of herself down after that.

A Chromatica Ball Thread?!
Meme Dis Gonna B Gud GIF

OT: I think she said in an interview that Chromatica Ball reminded her of her love for the stage, it reconnected her with the fans. Chromatica is such a unique era in Gaga’s career because it evolved so much (from the making of the album, to the release / promo, and then the tour) it’s the only album that she didn’t cry for when she finished it and she said it was more of a relief for her, it needed to happen. And I think we see that relief on the tour, she performed like never before, it was so triumphant to behold. It really became the dance floor that she fought for. Chromatica Forever

Gaga's tours ironically have always informed fans as to what the next era might be theme wise...

TCB definitely felt more like Mayhem

Now I wonder if Gaga is going to do more operatic dance pop music as the tour and Abracadabra were very Phantom of the Opera themed...Gaga gonna bring back Popera? Baroque TEA-esque bops? I'd be here for it...and now a baby??? I think we are in for a much lighter, fun, and ARTPOPy album this time around

I feel that TCB was already an inspiration for pre-MAYHEM era - in other words, for direction she intended to take.

Since she started out colorful and then shifted to a dark style, we know that marked transition from Chromatica to MAYHEM
