monstertoronto 11,847
I am shocked and stunned that she had a whole baby without letting it leak (by whatever means). Incredible protection of her own privacy! And SO incredibly happy for her she’s been wanting a child for a while! Congrats mother! ❤️

Lots of public figures have had children through various means and kept it a secret until the birth had already occurred. High risk pregnancies, scrutiny, unwanted attention, stress, etc. are all valid reasons for doing this. Applying bioethics, especially in advances in medical technology affecting humans, is where my "just because we can, doesn't mean we should" statement. The hard pill to swallow comes in the form of accepting that we can't always get what we want even if it's possible. That's where science can progress in areas that can be a violation of natural laws (in this case, the natural law that children are created by the sexual union of a man and a woman). There's also the matter that in many cases, it's not just a single fertilized egg, but many which are evaluated for which is the "most viable" and the rest are discarded. There's an argument to be made that it violates the human dignity of those other zygotes. The means matter, not just the end result. Not everyone gets to have a child of their own flesh and blood. That's always been the case in human history, and I will agree that it's a sad and unfortunate reality. That's why I mentioned adoption being an option. An adopted child is no less a parent's child than their biological children. Im curious about the natural law, since it's not really a factual law but rather a belief stemming from religion/philosophy, as well as this bioethics. Afaik, there's no scientific law on biology that violates reproduction when someone chose surrogacy. It's a procedure akin to organ transplant; to cancer treatment, and even vaccines. These modern medicine violates "nature". If we rejected medical advancements simply because they bypass "natural laws," the healthcare system would collapse. As for choosing the most viable fertilized egg - these are lump of cells, non-sentient, no consciousness. And even in natural reproduction, weak zygotes fails to implant and is naturally discarded by the human body. Don;t get me wrong, if I'm wealthy I would adopt as well but this should be an option and not a hammer that punishes people who chose to lean on modern medicine. When I say natural law, I refer to the processes by which things are observed to happen in nature. Like gravity on Earth - when you throw a ball in the air, it's going to come back down because of gravity (unless it's filled with helium, which because of its chemical composition, which is observable, it will continue to float). Human procreation is observed by the sexual union of a man and a woman after which the baby is carried in the mother's uterus. It's the artificial intervention in the creation of new human life that makes surrogacy different than an organ transplant or a miscarriage. Implanting a donated heart or lung in a patient is a different goal post than a zygote that has capacity to become a full human person. Miscarriage is biological reality that happens when the body rejects the zygote - the difference there is there's no artificial intervention that causes the baby to be lost (outside of certain cases). mlmc1995 290
Just wanna say sorry if I came off as too much, I guess this is a sensitive topic and I’m cancer sun and moon so prone to emotional outbursts I think just have respect in situations where you don’t know the ins and outs of everything, have your opinions but recognise where they aren’t relevant and ultimately don’t make a massive moral judgement off a few paparazzi pics. Especially from someone that likely doesn’t want ppl to know everything about her personal life.
ItalianGuy 69
I’m not sure if I’m reading a comments page of TMZ here by some of your comments. Get a grip bro. I’m a long time fan and in the elder part of this fan base. 41 near Gaga’s age. We would never judge someone having a child the way they want or can. Get lost if you have another opinion because it’s not your opinion to have. Be happy and leave debates over birth options to another place. 1 1
