Tbh I feel as though her artistry is so linked with gender fluidity and “the self” as being this constantly changing and evolving thing, that I don’t really see her as being male or female despite seeing her as a woman? Maybe this is too galaxy brain of a response lmao

I fell down a Rufus Wainwright rabbit hole. Tony Bennett, hell even Sinatra, has nothing on him. He would outperform both in a heartbeat. I was absolutely floored by his Jazz performances

If everything stayed the same down to the very same outfits, appearances, performances, etc. I don’t think it would have worked as well with the public

but. If it was the same artistic spirit, in a male body, and that translated into its own thing, I think it still could have stuck. We also don’t know what KIND of gay Gaga would be.

I don’t think she’d have even made the same music if she was a man nor the same style, she would’ve leaned more into indie rock and being a rockstar I think and tumblr would’ve gobbled her (him) up in the early 2010s and she would’ve have a cult following I think.

She wouldn’t have had the fame, money or label backing to do things 1:1 that she’d done really. The fact she was a woman played into a lot of the notoriety around how she was percieved. She said it herself in that one interview with the purple wig;
