Is it me or the RPDR franchise is becoming too much, are people still invested in the show?

I love Drag Race and watch all of the english speaking seasons. Which is already a lot lol but i enjoy it.

WOW have already confirmed its carrying on directly with them

But also

They've been behind it the whole time tbf

They have but it’s always felt lacking, I dunno, maybe it’s sort of a side piece brand carrier, if they sack it off it’s one of those things as it’s not been great since the earlier seasons but if they invest in it and give it another chance, maybe it could have a second wind. I’m from the UK and it’s just not had the pull the US seasons have had. I just think the US does reality better.

Genuinely the first UK fan and first drag race fan I've personally encountered that ranked the US one over the UK.

Like the general consensus is that US drag race is stale and boring in the fandom. I will give it to you though, S7 UK was trash.

I honestly think the biggest isse the UK franchise has is the casting because of the lack of actual prizes. Costs a ****tonne to compete for minimal reward so all the established acts avoid it like the plague unless they get like personally invited on by the producers.

Oh I agree about the casting and budget playing a big part. Perhaps I meant more so the early seasons, as in single digit to AS2, they were the peak for me, amazing casts and genuine drama and talent. I think the first few seasons of UK had the talent but missed out on the production but then it just went very meh and the performances were kinda awkward to watch as in the non invested person would not get it at all where as in the early American seasons it had that pull. Maybe it’s past its prime generally but I enjoy it either way, we need queer visibility more than ever but I just hope it finds again what made it fun where you didn’t want to miss an episode.

Does this mean that winners will be able to win an actual money prize from now on? Or is that just not allowed in the UK in general? I thought it was a BBC thing

Let’s hope so, that might help with quality

Honestly, I think the format is just stale generally on the Ru fronted franchises now.
The ones without Ru on generally seem to give better tv now imo. Like even Down Under vs the world flows better.

I feel like Ru's own personal input (which pushes a specific style of drag which really just isn't resonating with fans these days) is causing the issue.

Maybe so, I guess it worked back then when she was enjoying herself but maybe needs a fresh perspective, interesting to see what that looks like.

It's not even a BBC thing (hence UKvsTW having prize money). The rule is that the prize pot can't come from public funding, so in WOWs case they have to stump up the cash themselves. And as the BBC doesn't allow advertising, WOW can't pull in outside funders for the prize pots.

REALITY

No, this is concerning. I don't care how many f*gs complain about "production riggory" or the fact that there are "too many franchises" happening. The fact of the matter is that Drag Race is still one of the most prominent, openly and unapologetically queer shows in the mainstream.

To see that the BBC felt comfortable enough to cancel it should be concerning for queer representation across the board, especially as the world becomes more and more conservative.

All Stars is great because if any franchise needs it, it's the UK, but I hope this doesn't stop them from making more regular seasons. Even if they're just on WOW.

The way I thought the title meant season 8 was cancelled, thought there had been another controversy with the cast so they just scrapped the whole thing :air:
