27monster27 16,024
On September 9th 2016, Lady Gaga released Perfect Illusion as the lead single from her then upcoming album Joanne. The song was released on a Thursday, so it is almost exactly ten years to the day of the week! The song blended arena rock and 80s music stylings, which would later be noted as different from the other country-themed tracks on Joanne. Happy birthday Perfect Illusion! ---- The beginning of my first full era as a Little Monster. I remember how much I loved this song, and I still do! Contrary to what some say, I really think that choosing to release a song like this in the middle of the tropical pop era was actually a very experimental and high risk decision. I think the differences from the main album were to bridge the gap for fans who were expecting something like TFM and BTW (especially BTW) from the idea that she was originally working with RedOne on the album. he/him/his 2 3

ALonelyNight 729
I stayed up til 11:30 pm the first week of my 10th grade year to listen to it. I was underwhelmed but it's a core memory for me
JolP24601 95
The beginning of my Gaga fandom!!! Crazy as hell that it's been TEN whole years! This was the first Gaga era I remember being present for! Still adore this song! I always want to play it at the highest volume! I have so many memories of blasting this song in my dad's old apartment, in my mom's backyard while running up and down the hill, when going as fast as I could down a hill in our neighborhood while scootering, or in my first car. I also remember nearly blowing my voice out every time I'd try to hit that post-chorus (the Ohhhhhhhhhh-oh-Ohhhhhhhhhh parts). Truly an underrated first single off any of her albums! 1
Cherry Blues 526
What i love about Perfect Illusion is the emotional element of the song. But at that time I was a little disappointed, i was expecting a new Bad Romance from her at the time - i was disappointed with the lyrics. But when Joanne came out, i liked it more and more and it got a key to my heart because of it's emotional side.
