The Dead Dance 1 year later

So I got back The Dead Dance this week for it's anniversary and I couldn't help but feel sad for the reception the fanbase gave to this AMAZING B.O.P.

I think the song suffered from taking the single treatment from an OG Mayhem song. The video was also a let down.

But the song itself?! GURL! The mysterious and dark beginning, the synths, the BASS, that pre-chorus, the funky chorus... The build up is insane. Literally one of the best pop songs of the last year.  It's just, so much fun.

The outro is divine

& the music video isn't terrible (imo)

I think the weakest things about it are the music video and the fact that songs like VIY and ZB remained “obscure” because of it.

The song is solid, though. Those funk vibes or whatever are overdone as hell, but the verses are very good, especially the second one

You know what's the worst part - it feels like the song came out 2 months ago, and yet the wait for LG8 will feel like a decade - WTF, TIME, WHY YOU GOTTA BE LIKE THAT

I definitely think it was weak as a single, and the sting of knowing better choices were there made it hard to handle. 

The video was a let down because you can't tell me it looks like Tim Burton made that. Part of it feels like another song would have been better for him to direct. Vanish Into You, for example, could have had an esthetic and a story. 

Also - no one was ever going to "Do the Dead Dance." It FEELS like an answer to Bloody Mary making it big on Wednesday and not a genuine work of art. 

The video felt more like John Wayne than anything Tim Burton. 

I think it being a separate thing she did only for Wednesday could have been easier for everyone to accept.

It is a good, funky-disco track. I also think it was a reaction to the Bloody Mary hype. If I could have chosen it, however, LoveDrug would have been the single.
