Sooo annoying my local AMC isn't playing it!!!! Will have to wait until it's online. but I'm excitedddd

i'm not gonna lie, it's worth seeing it in theaters if you have the privilege to drive 30 minutes or something to go see it, I would.

there's surprise factors to the movie. (sister, in more ways than one!) there's polarizing topics (one in particular) that for me—knowing that there was a chance that half the theater felt different about this—changes how the .... could .... ahhh i really don't want to give anything away!!!

Maestro, play me your symphony; I will answer to anything. Take me on a trip,

I'm dying to see this! A documentary that could potentially win Best Picture. It's not released in the UK for another month. Just waiting for some pirate to upload a stream

you missed a bit

Spoiler

Probably one of the top 5 movies I've seen of all time, it's very genre-defying and doesn't fit into one box. It's a comedy, a horror, a romance, a tragedy.. What a ride. I sat front row and wasn't expecting the giant up close p*nis out of nowhere in the first 30 minutes :green: Too bad it's attached to one of the worst men I've ever seen on screen.

This is the most "human" I've ever seen Nathan, he definitely came off a lot more serious than his usual comedic persona. I don't even know if persona is the right word because he seems to genuinely act this way, it was odd not seeing him laugh once in the 3 hour film though, maybe a half smile here and there.

I'm a bit concerned that the movie makes you feel for Elizabeth more, you can tell even Nathan ended up caring for her on a deeper human level and almost protected her. She's clearly a f*cked up person who can't admit that she did any wrong, there's even a scene where she straight up says that she's never intentionally lied once in her life (like what?). But to see how abusive her husband is makes you feel like she sets herself up for failure by falling for these narcissistic men. The whole thing is just a mess you can't take your eyes off of. I didn't doze off once, which is impressive for a documentary format. 10/10

Seeing it in a few hours. The internet has hyped this up immensely so I'm worried

I was worried too, but even being very familiar with his stuff—this is still a refined, culmination of his work that has numerous subtle layers that present... ... I really don't want to spoil anything, I want to hear your reaction! I'm still sitting with the questions I'm left after and even if somehow you feel underwhelmed, I'd encourage the same.

Not super spoiler-ish, but:

Spoiler

For me, they were: What do the main protagonists and makers of this want me to see? Are these perspectives congruent with each other? Do I see the same thing as them? Does this line up with traditional contemporary documentary formats? Why not and how so? I could keep going but lemme stop

It was simultaneously better than I thought but less exciting than I was anticipating.

Spoiler

The surprise guest star and their scenes were a shock to me and ended up being my favorite scenes after the Abbott and Costello bit. The Wework reveal had me cackling in my seat. The C***** K*** confrontation made me a hardcore fan of them. Less exciting bc I came out more with more questions than answers and the internet talk and hype made me think a bombshell revelation was coming that never materialized.

Ultimately I think she's guilty but less guilty than I previously thought. I truly believe that there's something undiagnosed going on that lead to miscommunication resulted in her current situation. No sympathy from me though because of her love for her man when he is proud and unashamed of the way he is. He is the demon. Like actually medically evil.

Love it. That surprise appearance person for the win. Obsessed with them now.

I was both over and underwhelmed by the ending. But then I sat with it

Spoiler

do you think nathan fielder is a reliable narrator in this work? how is that different than other documentaries? who do you think is more of the manipulator here, the filmmaker or the subject? knowing both how the score/musicality is used in the first half and then how the film ended with nathan and liz swimming in the cold ocean... or any example of hers like saying he'd be a good dad or actually getting him to go swimming even after he said he didn't like cold water...
