A man of his times (primarily in his personal letters etc rather than explicitly in the books), but unlike JK Rowling he was publicly and a strong opponent of eugenics, antisemitism and spoke out against the Nazis/German propaganda.

I’m sure he wasn’t transphobic either

I mean he's dead. And has been before likely any user on this website was born.

Whatever he was, he's not funding discrimination with income gained via engagement with his IPs

Yeah he’s dead, duh.

To be fair, this was before any form of social media. This is all speculative but who knows what he’d use his IP to support if he were still alive today. I never buy the argument of well it’s a product of its time and all that BS. It’s just seems like a way to make excuses because you like something. Sorry.

Gonna back this horse but mostly 'cause that genre of story (magic, elves, medieval times, stuff like that) is genuinely so uninteresting :bradley:

I mean, it’s really more about good vs. evil, corruption, consolidation of power etc. I think, in addition to being beautiful executed, it’s also incredibly politically prescient

Yeah and the Alien franchise is about greed, betrayal, and the irony that an inhuman group of pitch black space monsters with teeth and claws can cooperate better than human beings but if you don't like horror and aliens you won't enjoy watching it :neyde:

Just making **** up lmao. Not only did he never say either of those things, he actually actively advocated for women to pursue higher education, in private letters actively encouraged his sons to view women as equals (not as frail or damsels in distress), and in many of those same letters, remarked that in many areas, women are much smarter than men.
