Was it? People love DWUW and it was gearing up to be a smash. Cut at the knees b/c of that music video.

Do you think it didn't live up to expectations because of lack of the MV?

Possibly... But still it had a great promo - AMA performance, then the Voice performance with Christina Aguilera. It still couldn't become a smash hit.

For instance, Dark Horse by Katy Perry was rising steadily at the same time even without MV, and then of course it became unescapable once the MV was released

Disagree, tbh. I think the tension of the song actually needs the pull between the predator and the victim (audience/media + artist).

unfortunately r kelly was a great fit for the song musically speaking.

where is the weeknd as an option? he would have been great. if not him than usher. i would also like to hear chris brown on that song based on his voice alone, but obviously he would be a bad pick because he is awful

The Weeknd would have been the only one I would've truly wanted. He wasn't a huge name at that point though, he was just making his big breakthrough and wasn't established enough for big names to work with him yet. If he was as huge as he is now, who knows if he wouldn't have been selected for this instead? Don't know why so many of you voted for Usher, he's been pretty problematic for a while now. So many people in hip hop are controversial so on the whole, RnB would've been a safer feature but nothing's failsafe these days, but that wasn't a factor in 2012/2013. If DWUW was made today, no way would anyone remotely problematic be allowed to feature so it's a shame this great song has ended up practically forgotten outside her fans. It definitely needed a feature however. The solo version doesn't have enough lyrics and benefits from a male voice contrasting.

The Weeknd was already making waves via Drake and within the R&B community so definitely him. It would be so legendary now

we should do a petition for a The Weeknd remix tbh; it's frustrating having no presence of the song in her career when it's one of her best songs

The Weeknd! It’s so strange Gaga/her team had worked with him during BTW era (marry the night remix) and he was kind of emerging in the music scene by the time ARTPOP was recorded so it was not too far fetched

I would LOVE Adam to have been on it but let's be real it should've just been Christina from the start :classy:

I wish they’d work sometime again - maybe on some jazzy song? or more instrumental? Back to Basics sound would really work well for them as a duo

I didn’t know about the Weeknd remix… Now, knowing that, it’s shocking to me they haven’t had a song together still :saladga:
