albums that you had expectations from, but they disappointed you

Most recently it would definitely be ‘petal’. After ‘HTIMYLM’, I think it was the first Ariana record I was actually waiting for. Usually when it came to her music, I listened to it when it came out but never waited for it with anticipation. So when ‘petal’ came out, my excitement died as soon as I finished listening to it.

I’m usually wary of grand statements following an album release, but this could possibly be my favorite Madonna album, and favorite album ever since Born This Way — that’s how hard I’m riding for Confessions II

Its not a bad album but I wanted her to have a record like Disease-Abracadabra-Perfect Celebrity- Happy Mistake.

 

the cheese michael added felt like a generic version of Gaga being forced to make the original LG5 for fan-fodder.

 

she should have stuck more with the crazy mistress thing and called the album something more thought provoking. Her concepts used to be stronger.

I really hate the tendency this fanbase has to give Gaga 100% of the credit when she does something they like and then pawn off what they perceive as missteps on someone else. 

She cannot simultaneously have all the power but also answer to others. 

She made the decisions on what songs were on the track list. She made the decisions a lot of us don’t like. Not Michael, not her management. She has the ability to decline doing anything she doesn’t want to and has done so.

3 albums come to mind for which I had high expectations and was absolutely disappointed:

ARTPOP: I became a fan during the Born This Way era which is my favorite album of all time. I had extremely high expectations for the music and for the era, only for ARTPOP to end up being the worst album I've ever heard

Britney Jean: The album is extremely bad, particularly considering Britney's albums were all great (except minus debut). I fully blame the money hungry scumbags who stole her life tho

Midnights: This is when Taylor started focusing on charts & numbers and it's very obvious considering how flat and unseasoned the album is. But THIS album coming after folklore and evermore which I loved so much is a CRIME.

Full disclosure, I'm usually behind the curve with these kind of things lol 🤡

But for the time being, I'm settling on "it's okay."

Love Sensation? Brilliant

Bizarre? Catchy, very catchy

Love Without Words, Crystallized, School? Replayable

Betrayal & The Test are okay, too

So maybe I'm being unfair. Seeing those titles typed out ^ it seems like that would enough songs to earn an "I'm pleased with this album."

But idk........ the rest of the songs don't do it for me at all (as of this writing) & maybe I'm letting the preceding hype taint things for me still.  The album feels very sonically-cohesive, to its credit. I guess in general, I tend to prefer instantly-memorable bops over a "vibe."

Maybe I will come outside into the light soon

Stupid Love was a jam and Rain on Me killed. Then I heard the demo for Free Woman and was blown away at how unique and incredible it sounded.

Then I listened to the album and hated every song other than SL, ROM, and SFA
