No I never thought that. I guess it’s the difference between “medical AI” and “generative AI” and my flat out hatred of “generative AI” is bleeding out into all of it.

I guess that’s a case people have to be more clear on.

This is a common misconception about AI. Imagine a researcher tasked with reviewing thousands of scientific papers before applying those findings to formulation and lab testing. That same researcher becomes exponentially faster when AI filters and synthesizes only the relevant literature for them to evaluate.

The same applies to interpolating data, analyzing test results, and predicting outcomes. It's not about autonomous AI operating entirely behind the scenes to replace the scientist; it's about researchers using AI as a force multiplier to accelerate discoveries by orders of magnitude.

This is especially prominent in oncology and drug discovery, where AI simulations screen target compounds and model biological interactions in silico (the computational equivalent to in vitro and in vivo). This cuts down early laboratory trial-and-error before candidates advance to clinical trials, drastically reducing toxicity risks and off-target side effects.

Whew … interesting on the first glance … well, transparent with the executive vision if nothing else—the candor of proclaiming “a really, really great experience” with Thiel is quite lucid insight into to embryonic fundamentals of their business culture

How Sean Parker‘s plan to help the poor boosted the rich

NAPA, Calif. — The Buena Vista tasting room is not just another downtown Napa wine bar.

It is a conspicuously indulgent place, where epicureans can fill their glasses with cabernet and sink into the carefully restored mezzanine’s dark velvet lounges for a tasting of fine caviar and artisan chocolates resembling museum pieces.

One vibe this nook of luxury does not give off is that of a community in distress. Its neighbor in the ornate 1920s Italianate edifice known as the Gordon Building is an Anthropologie store.

The redevelopment of the building, damaged in an earthquake, was bankrolled using a tax shelter created in 2017 for the wealthiest Americans on the promise it would bring opportunity to the most downtrodden places.

Billions of dollars’ worth of tax breaks for the wealthy are being generated by the Opportunity Zone program, often in pursuit of luxury high-rises, high-end hotels and swank office space. It has subsidized hulking self-storage units nestled alongside freeways and upmarket apartments for employees of the hottest Bay Area tech firms.

One thing the tax break has fallen short on: creating opportunities in low-income communities.

“This has been perverted into a huge gift for people who did not need it,” said Aaron Seybert, managing director of social investment at the Kresge Foundation, which has found it difficult to put the tax break to work toward its effort to bring opportunity to America’s struggling communities.

“They are spending my money and yours. They said they would do that because these low-income areas are falling behind and they want to help people who live there,” Seybert said.

“The places I work in every day have raised virtually nothing” through the program, he said.

The same grievance can be heard from mayors of struggling towns throughout the nation. Among those declaring the program a bust is the East Baltimore pastor who went to the White House in 2018 to help President Trump unveil it. His community has been passed over as investors chase the double-digit returns that accompany the tax shelter in upscale markets.

The story of how this all happened has deep California roots, sprouting from the vision of a Silicon Valley billionaire who inserted himself into the machinations of federal policymaking.

Sean Parker — founder of Napster, Facebook’s first president and the Silicon Valley bad boy depicted in the film “The Social Network” — seemed a stretch for this role.

Parker began working the Washington circuit late in the Obama era, when it was still hospitable to super-rich tech innovators but few had the patience or humility to navigate it. Washington is not about moving quickly and breaking things. Long, slow insider games of horse-trading precede almost every big new federal policy.

Yet Parker’s plan had bipartisan appeal. It focused on the wealth of Americans loath to reinvest their stock market, real estate and other capital gains profits because of the hefty tax bills that come when that money is moved. The idea was to give them a break on those taxes if they steered the money to communities desperate for investment.

how can people say this feels unlike her when in her debut years, she was out there promoting god knows everything, including the unintentional prototype of the very well hated Meta Glasses (the GL20s)

nobody had an issue with it back then but for some reason, y'all have decided to become completely anti-capitalist after investing in her capitalist career for years

you guys get mad when she doesn't promote, sell and make money but then you guys get mad when she... promotes, sells and makes money

"but i can enjoy the music" fine, but it's still the same thing, it's a product that it marketed and pushed to make money.

mother, what must i do?

AUTOMATION AI IS NOT GENERATIVE AI.

i say this as someone who despises generative ai, being that i'm a graphic designer by trade.  PLEASE stop doomposting.

everyone keeps saying "oh, he's back, he's back!" but the truth is i never left!

At first I thought it was bad but after reading a little bit, this seems it's helpful and with benefit people. I trust in Gaga that AI use can be good in the right hands.

Filthy Pout

This is so fascinating to me. It's actually a relatively simple idea but this could be the start to something even bigger in the future!

Think about it, right now their probably starting with testing chemicals and products for various things like aging or different skin disorders. But I can totally see this moving into finding cures and solutions to things like Burns or skin cancer which is seriously on the rise! This is exactly where AI can be utilized for the better, Its not replacing scientists, it's assisting them and helping their research.

"but i can enjoy the music" fine, but it's still the same thing, it's a product that it marketed and pushed to make money.

The glasses were commercial but it still fit into the thesis of who she is as an artist, merging technology and fashion. We were able to connect to it because it felt a prop from the era and an extention of her persona as Gaga.

Also supporting her creative output as an artist is not the same thing as supporting a corporate B2B designed to develop patents for pharmaceutical conglomerates.

People find this new venture jarring and understandably so. It comes across as her attaching her brand to an Ai lab spearheaded by her tech exec fiancé where she plays the role of a board member. There's no artistic expression here, its all about a asset growth

For me, wanting music to be promoted and be successful is about wanting her art to be celebrated as it should be, and not putting more money in her purse.

it all boils down to the same thing, you can tell yourself all of that but it's still all about money

if she came out with the Polaroid glasses today, everyone here would be hating her yet back then it was fine

there's no difference. nobody cared when she shilled overpriced earphones, nobody cared when she promoted a random German tv channel, nobody cared when she flogged toothbrushes that played music

but these days, whenever she does something to make money, despite this actually having a scientific benefit to those who struggle with their skin, it's "OMG SHE'S BECOME UNRECOGNISABLE!!"

mother, what must i do?

Its not that this venture is inherently bad and I'm not against it all, it just seems off brand for Gaga. I also question why a company dealing with this type of complex science isn't founded by people who have deep understanding of the field.

absolutely isn't off brand for her at all when she's always been about technology + medicine/help for chronic conditions has been a part of her life for over 10 years now

This is great, I am not sure why people are complaining and asking for more music. Just be happy you get anything at all.

We are now more sensitive about what others do to make money especially those that have so much money already so its a reasonable turn off when a venture feels completely money motivated.

Idk I always get the ick when musicians do these things :ladyhaha: even with Kylie and those wines or the home decor line I was like rly gurl? :max: but the difference is that Kylie kind of effortlessly connects the music, her persona with these lines and is very present online, wheras Gaga barely exists and then randomly hits us with the most offputing brand deals or products that are unaccessible to 80% of the fanbase.
