I think the story turned to garbage, folded in on itself, and became an absurd parody of the magic it once was. I did play BBS but found it to be just okay. And it pissed me off that Ventus looked exactly like Roxas with some dumbass excuse as to why. It didn't need that convoluted bs. He could've just been his own character and the story could've stood alone and it would've been miles better without muddying the original stories Nomura said he had the entire story planned out meticulously by the time they finished KH2 so everything was planned beforehand. The Ventus thing makes total sense and explained something I questioned in KH2, like I said you have to play ALL the games to get the story (or watch one of those 6 hour YouTube videos that explains the story). BBS is a prequel and they said that before it even came out, it explains everything from the first 3 games (KH1 CoM KH2) like why Sora’s Nobody looks nothing like him, what Castle Oblivion from CoM was, how Kairi even ended up on Destiny Islands in the first place and the beginnings of Xehenort’s plan. Then DDD and the mobile games expanded on the rest. You have all the pieces to find out the story. And if you think you don’t understand it now boy oh boy will you not understand KH4 without playing the mobile games (which are all now no longer available). You won’t understand the MoM setup, Luxu, The Foretellers, who Strelizia even is and what Quadratum even is. Might be time to watch a full deep dive lore video my friend id recommend

See you in 2029 They said at D23 the late 2027 is locked in and they’re already about halfway through the finalised version of the game now. They probably said late so it gives them a small window of about 4 months leeway Edited August 16 by gagzus

Convoluted is the best word to describe it. If you need to watch a 6 hour video explaining the story, and still get confused, it's a badly written story. The first two were straight forward and had powerful messages and stories. All the clones and replicas and split-selves and revived dead and 1000 ansema and xemnases and hearts sharing hearts and all that is just.. a mess I know I'm being negative, and I'm sorry that I don't agree with you, but that's my opinion on it. You are fully allowed to love it, all the spinoffs, the complicated lore, etc. That's for you to love. But personally I loved the first two games to absolute death and hold them dearly forever in my heart (that stupid word is losing all meaning omg) and they will mean a lot to me forever, but the rest just did not click with me at all. And because they took it in such crazy directions, I guess hold resentment towards what it's become I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. Theres no clones or split selves (which you would know if you understood it like you said), all the 13 Xehenorts are explained by time travel which is fairly easy to understand and the heart sharing thing only happens 2 times in whole series ONE of which you clearly understood because it was in KH1 which you loved and the exact same logic is used for Ventus’ heart at the end of BBS. I’m glad you enjoyed the earlier games but if you’re not going to make the effort to understand the games WHY come into a thread about the new upcoming game which requires you to have all the knowledge of the previous games. If you just wanna complain and not add anything girl just pace around your room and mumble to yourself about how much you hate the series idk. If you just wanna complain and not add anything girl just pace around your room and mumble to yourself about how much you hate the series idk. I'm still a fan and am still looking forward to KH4 but at this point it's pretty undeniable that the story is a mess in the way that it has been executed. Even just from the fact that several crucial storylines are on niche games that can't even be played anymore. I have tried to invest myself in the lore of Union X, Dark Road, Re:coded and several of the other spin-off games that I never played or never could play. I sadly never even got to play 358/2 Days so I had to resort to the in-game summary. But reading a summary of a story instead of experiencing a story yields very different results. I forget a lot of names and details, I don't feel a connection to the characters and honestly the magic gets lost. It feels like homework. And the KH series now punishes you if you dont get a 10/10 on said homework. I was completely confused when the Union X reference happened during the finale of KH3 because that story didn't stick with me at all, despite watching several videos about it to prepare myself for KH3. It made me sad because it was clearly meant to be a hype moment, but I just felt like I hadn't studied hard enough to be part of it. And it's not an easy story to follow. Several characters are (to this day) deliberately designed to confuse or mystify you. They even made a whole inside joke about it with Axel in Yen Sids tower: "This is an awful lot to get memorized". Heck, you even need to know about the Final Fantasy Versus XIII development cycle to understand the significance of Yozora. But the thing is: KH knows how to pull on your heart strings. They do emotional moments so well (among other things) that even I tend to forget the convoluted plot. Which is why I still love and play it. But claiming that people who don't follow the plot are lazy or obtuse? That's just short-sighted and an unwillingness to discuss valid critiques. RAMROD 117,904
Maybe they will also add newer Disney characters in this game, since Miguel from Coco will be there? I'd be so chuffed if they have Nick from Zootopia & The whole Inside Out emotions gang

I'd be so chuffed if they have Nick from Zootopia & The whole Inside Out emotions gang Since the story is about Sora in an afterlife I imagine all the stories and locations deal with death and the afterlife are going to in the game. Coco’s world and Underworld from Mount Olympus obviously is confirmed and they seem to be doing “realistic” style Disney worlds where everything looks more Pixar or maybe Final Fantasy coded so I imagine we’ll see Soul, Onward, Up, The Good Dinosaur, The Princess and The Frog and maybe even some Final Fantasy worlds like Spira for instance. Judging from the concept of KH4 being an “interlude” I suspect most of the game will be set in Quadratum. Then KH5 may be the final game in the series. gagzus 24,715
Just a heads up to fans, the achievement list for the game was leaked on SteamDB yesterday and contains major mechanic, story and world spoilers. so just to let you guys know if you're avoiding them. For those who like spoilers here's what we got from the leak; Spoiler Worlds: Quadratum Scala Ad Caelum Underworld (Hercules) Land of the Dead (Coco) Galaxy Far, Far Away (Star Wars) Toy Box (Toy Story) Haunted Mansion 100 Acre Wood (Winnie the Pooh again) Monochrome Origins (Similar to Timeless River) Savanna Central (Zootopia Imagineer Planet (Not known if this is a story world or a separate one like the arena from BBS) Mechanic Related: * Links are in the game, not sure if it's D-Link's like BBS or Summons. * There's some form of online mechanic, presumably the elements of the cancelled Missing Link game * There's two superbosses in the game * Ultima Keyblade is back * There's a lot of mini games and collection achievements * Seems like crafting is back but instead of the Moogles it's player specific, since one achievement talks about upgrading an accessory or armour with a "rarity" material. *Quadratum is most likely the "home world" of the game where all your crafting and connection to the worlds is *Goofy is shown to have an ability to steal an opponent's weapon off them called "Goofy Magnet". *Each world has side quests from NPCs Story Specific: * The Master of Masters is the final boss of the game * The world's visited in the game aren't "fully real" because they're linked to Unreality * Mickey's part of the story is entirely in Scala, and his missions involve the books as he learns the history of the Foretellers and the Book of Prophecy.
