No shade, but will we have 4 threads of discourse over Sombr literally spouting pro-ana talking points like we've had for Ariana the past week (who literally hasn't spewed such talking points) orrr

As other people here have said, few people here probably care all that much about Sombr. Ariana is a main pop girl, and so pretty much everything she does gets discussed for days on end here.

Controversiaga

I had the same issues with eating as well and stayed at the ED department at the psychological hospital for a month. It was exactly what I needed

to this day eating feels like a chore sometimes, especially since I am actively working on increasing my weight and intake.

I'm curious why you think his is less insidious. I would think that him openly saying that he only eats to survive is much more insidious than Ari's body checking (though I can see how maybe him being open about it leaves less room for plausible deniability).

Exactly. The plausible deniability of it all. Even though that is shrinking for her, day by day.

Openly saying something about it isn't insidious. I think it is *unhelpful* & a bit *media-opportunistic* (as gross as that sounds in this context) but at least it is direct.

Meanwhile.... AG beating around the bush with outfits intended to show her malnourished body, choosing that narrative about bodily scrutiny in her newest music video ("needs to lose weight"), her vile tongue-in-cheek partnership with uber eats & THEN her intentional silence about the responses... are all insidious.

He is shouting for the attention, she is playing with it.

I know this is a touchy subject & cynicism is often unwelcome. But it bears repeating: all that matters to these celebrities is that people are talking about them (which translate to various avenues of profit).

As far as I’m concerned, until either of them come out & directly say “I am sick. If you are too, here is how you can get help…,” they should both be ashamed for using disordered eating as a talking point in their celebrity narrative (passively or actively).

They're recklessly aiding in the derailment of people’s relationships with body image & nutrition… tiny violin in one hand, giant bundles of cash in the other

Here we go...now veryone coming out as pro-ED like its no big deal...I blame you know who and it's so irresponsible to say things like this when you have such young and impressionable fans...:littlepotter:

I don’t really understand why what he said is problematic? I used to be like that when I was going through a depression. I only ate because I knew I had to. A lot has changed since and I really enjoy good food but I believe that a lot of people are going through the same and I think it’s important for people to talk about this..

Granted, that is a big reason why Ari is under more scrutiny, but I just find the double standard rather unfortunate. Like I wonder if Jameela Jamil or the NYT will write thinkpieces on him saying "I have issues with eating; I only eat to survive," which, imo, is much more harmful than what Ari is currently doing.

Isn't Jameela Jamil talking about that with Ariana it's being treated as if it's not happening/ normal? Sombr is literally saying he has issues with food? I don't really get the comparison

and im not saying Ari needs to say anything at all but you can't criticize someone mentioning that they are worried about Ariana because she doesn't look ok and compare it to no one having the same reaction to someone literally talking about their issues with food?
