Toronto air quality got so bad it managed to be the worst in the world today, a rare feat usually found in Asian cities

The culprit was a perfect storm of wildfires smoke combined with very high humidity (which traps smoke in the air) and low winds to clear out the haze. The air was so bad it was literally orange

Today driving to work I was mesmorized at how yellow and orange the sky was. The light even from the windows was glowing yellow it was crazy

PS: during mid day it looked like that by the way. This is not amplified from sunrise or sunset, it literally looked like that all day. Like were in venus

Meanwhile the Prime Minister continues to destroy climate policies Canadians and others have strongly fought to get passed, Doug Ford pushes the oil industry agenda, Danielle Smith lives with her head up foreign oil investors' butts. Canada is in desperate need of a new Prime Minister and provinces are in need of new premiers. Canada is one of the only countries left that try to politicize climate action, in other parts of the world, left, right, centre, liberal or conservative, everything in between, they all agree climate action is needed and they promote strong climate policies. Canada desperately needs to get past the politicization and weaponization of climate action. Canadians also need massive education when it comes to things like the oil industry and about pipelines. Another pipeline will not benefit Canadians or lower cost of living.

Not the orange colored sky anyone wanted...

Any reports on what caused the wildfires?

Deadly beauty, how poetic. The second picture does look like an image from Venus, the first one like Mars during a dust storm. Or a planet orbiting a dimmer star, maybe and orange or red dwarf.

A lovely view with a not so healthy twist :sis:

For anyone who read Narnia The Magicians Nephew, I woke and I saw the yellow sky with a dim red sun and it felt like I was in Charn. Very eerie and unsettling for sure.

It’s a beautiful chaos, I agree. The dusts as a last souvenir of earth would be even more poetic to analyze too.

I remember.

I'm in Pennsylvania right now and it is pretty hazy. The Ray's Of Light.mp3 from the sun shining in places are redish orange because of the smoke. I hate this.

I think where Canadians have soured on climate action is that weve had an economy that is very dependent on natural resource extraction...

Now ever since tighter regulations introduced by Trudeau those sectors have taken a big hit. But what has Canada successfully invested in its place to compensate on economic growth? Nothing. Manufacturing is still dying, real estate is not a sustainable mode of growing economy as weve seen and tech has not grown enough to offset manufacturing or resource extraction

Moving away from Oil and Gas is fine but u need to somehow create growth somewhere else to compensate and we havent done that

What Canadians see is theres a cost to green policy, other Nations continue to produce oil anyway, our biggest competitor USA isnt playing ball on environmental regulations and are more competitive overall and our economy is stagnant.

I think if politicians can find a way to bring economic growth back to Canada without emphasis on resources there will be more support, but they havent done that, and the failure to do that tbh makes the lack of interest on environment the last 10 years not surprising

because right now it feels like an either or... like economic strength and prosperity and green policies cant coexist at the same time, its one or the other. And most people will choose economy over environment everytime when they struggle

It is worth noting tho, of all the biggest Oil prpducers in the world, Canada does in fact still have the strictest environmental regulations. More than Middle East, Russia or USA
