Canada literally buys more from USA than US from Canada in most sectors including manufacturing & services so were literally a net contributer to the blue collar jobs Trump is trying to save like wtf Most of any remaining trade imbalance (which isnt huge anyway with US and Canada) that exists at all because Canada has so much natural resources it exports that the US needs for ITS MANUFACTURING AND EXPORTS which the US would only be hurt by not buying. This rehtoric that we rip off the US is so unfair and false

Ladle Ghoulash 53,966
I love getting a sad react for pointing out that America isn’t a monolith (a country of 342M, mind you) and that the overwhelming majority of Californians, much less Americans, never supported trade war with Canada. But yeah, damage industries in parts of the US that agree with you politically, that’ll show Trump. RaveMonster 643
Keep it going Canada, America needs to learn the world doesn’t revolve around them. It’s sad for those wine makers if they didn’t vote for Trump but also Canada has amazing wine from British Columbia and I can assure you they have better practices and better companies than California does. At the Federal level at least the innitial retaliations were disproportionately towards industries in red states Alcohol bans from US have been Provincial decisions at their liquor stores (some Provinces own the liquor stores and essentially have a Government monopoly over the industry) so it gets tricker as our Federal Government has little jurisdiction on things like this. Ontario runs the LCBO stores for example (Liquor Control Board Of Ontario) and it can put what ever it decides on the shelves

Yes its True some blue States generally dont support Trump but they are much more likely to be vocal on the trade stuff if its hurting them more severely than if its just casual background noise especially since with Trump theres so many competing issues to steal attention So id say its working if its getting them to speak out Canada has a bit more leverage on trade id say than Mexico and China in some ways because trade with us is a lot closer to balance and we actually buy a lot more to the US. What we DO export to the US in large quantities a lot of it is more critical by nature and harder to replace because it usually involves natural resources the US doesnt have enough of. Not just manufactured trinkets u could after some years open up factors to replace imports (albeit at higher prices) such as much of whats imported from China Still woulda been good if other Countries fought back harder. Most didnt and Canada can only do so much on its own. Even if it is not beneficial for the USA either Trump is the kind of adversarial guy who will fight to the end because as long as he damages his opponent more than they damage you he sees that as a win even tho it makes no sense (less damage is still damage) I think Canadians took it more personally than most Countries because of the close ties for so long (and insulting comments from Trump like we should be a 51st State or we only exist because of the US didnt help). Thats probably why Canadians were more determined to fight back than most Countries but the truth is, if others dont retaliate too, a $2 Trillion economy can only do so much against a $30 Trillion economy
