She talks about how memories are not recycled like atoms and particles in quantum physics. They can be lost forever. It’s sort of like her past is an unfinished painting and as the artist of that painting she must fill in all the ugly holes, and make it beautiful again. It’s not that she has been dishonest; it’s just that she loathes reality.

I googled the lyrics for all the songs.

It's 13 songs about previous relationships.

I'm over this diarist style of singer. Nothing of importance to say, but everyone acts like its revolutionary

This album charts a full arc of a single relationship. The first half of the album is called “girl so in love” and the second half is called “you seem pretty sad”. The first half is upbeat songs about how infatuated and in love she is, but even then there are little hints of anxiety in them suggesting it may not last. The song “purple” is the turning point midway where she’s realizing that being in this relationship is actually making her lose herself and it starts sounding happy but the final line is that she’s starting to feel sad. The second half of the album explores her feelings and learnings after the breakup.
The songs are actually musically very varied more than her other albums and her storytelling skills are the most evolved and mature they’ve even been. It’s such a brilliant, beautiful album I’m so impressed and in love with it.

Listened to it while getting ready for work and then while heading to work.

I thought it was really good! I think she shows a lot of growth as a songwriter and storyteller. It is confessional, but relatable. I honestly love how its about love but has underlying sadness, anxiety, and fears about either herself, her lover, or the ideas of love. The production is pretty good. It isn't a complete departure from her previous albums, but I still think she nails the pop-rock style. My standout songs on first listen (beyond the two singles) were: Honeybee, U + Me = <3, My Way, Purple, Begged, What's Wrong With Me (with Robert Smith), Less, Expectations, and Cigarette Smoke.

Overall, a 4/5!

Mr S

I'll never understand why critics love her so much. It just sounds like a poor man's Taylor Swift to me. Yet it's being praised like it's Beyonce.

No shade, but this as a concept has been done about a million times. Not saying that alone makes it “bad,” but I agree with the general sentiment that every pop album being about break ups and romance is incredibly tired. Kudos to those who enjoy, but there is so much more to life than those kinds of stories.

It lacked replay value for me tbh. Couldn’t get thru the last 3 songs it just felt like a chore to get thru (expectations is Chappel Roan coded).

Not bad but felt like a fall/winter album.

I need her to switch up producers/image/sounds for OR4.

Listen to the second last song “Expectations”‘ it’s not like the other songs on that “side” of the  album

Fair point well made.

I always think of the likes of Olivia/Current Taylor/Gracie etc when I think of diarist style singers these days.
The singers with nothing to say but thousands of variants of it.

To each their own. I don’t think it needs to be a brand new concept to enjoy, the execution here is incredible.

Wild Concept: Listen to the album as if it’s from the perspective of the entity that possesses Nikki in the film “Obsession”

The songwriting on this album is really excellent. Definitely exceeds her past efforts lyrically. I can understand the criticism of the thematic being the same, but what did you expect from an album called you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love? Of course its gonna be about love and relationships. That being said, her past two albums had plenty of songs that weren't about love or relationships. Explorations of social media, a friend with a bad childhood, societal expectations for girls, envy of other women, etc., she's written plenty of other topics in just 3 records.
