Eh, difference there would be Gaga was talented and Madonna was threatened. I’d say with Addison it’s more than her fans hype her to the high heavens and a little humbling is necessary because she is not giving what they think she’s giving.

Y'all need to get off your high horses. Look at how much FUN all those people were having with her

You know, Gaga came along and raised the bar so high that noone else can reach it. But that doesn't mean every artist has to do all the 1000 things Gaga does in order to be valid as a performer or artist

I know I've been critical of other artists myself but there's nothing wrong with what this girl is doing. She seems sweet and people genuinely enjoy what she's doing and that's all that matters

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I think the hate towards her is just mostly due to her origin story. She will never be anything other than that girl from TikTok for a lot of people. She wasn’t hustling and doing one woman shows, having a strong artistic capabilities, or growing her music career from the ground up. It doesn’t mean she can’t be a singer/performer but her music career was quite literally handed to her and wasn’t because she wasn’t uniquely talented or special.

id like to add that I don’t like or dislike her. Also her atrocious remake of nothing on but the radio and the fans feedback on that made me realize that a lot of her fans simply have interesting taste in pop vocals because after reading all the comments I was confused if we just all listened to the same song.

I mean sure, she didn't 'work' for it. But should every artist have to crawl through the mud to prove themselves worthy? I understand the frustration. But some people just get a lucky break and take advantage of the situation. And of COURSE they do. The smart ones do at least. Wouldn't you?? If you suddenly had a million eyes on you because you went viral and got lucky, wouldn't you use that to further your career and pursue creative endeavours? Also I just have to say that this kind of hate and frustration is so often a double standard because when it comes to men, noone ever asks 'how hard did they work to deserve their spot?'. I say if a tonne of people are listening, enjoying, having fun, then the art is valid and their popularity is warranted

BUT.. different to people who see it as nothing but business and sell their souls with no integrity for fame, money and power. When I read that Sombr's father has money and connections in the music industry, after he randomly started showing up all over my social media even when I would click 'not interested', and he himself said he doesn't write albums he tests a hook on TikTok before deciding if it will be popular enough to make a song.. that pissed me off. That isn't an artist, that's a capitalists approach to using the public for their own selfish needs. But again, he's a man, so he gets away with it

I do think Gaga fans being a much older demographic at this point is a factor. Some replies in this thread are giving Stefani you will never be famous facebook group vibes ngl. It’ll take years though until they’ll realize this. I think a lot of Gaga fans are trying to seek patterns and repetitions in their judgement of who’s able to succeed and leave a mark. But very often people fail to see things because either things are different or they have a different apperance. If we play the tired game of comparisons, Addison shares crucial things with Gaga that made her succesful, for example a spot on intuition for which creative people to surround herself with. Also, both  play with what an “authentic pop star” at their respective time is allowed to look like. Gaga’s arrival came during a time of early reality tv fame and a cult around authenticity and rawness. Addison arrives in a different cultural landscape in which being a TikTok influencer is the cardinal sin of talent and seriousness du jour. It looks different because times are different. But then again, there’s no need to compare. They are two completely different artists. Things can remain unexplainable and be great.

I’m not arguing whether or not that notion is fully fair, just that it exists. I think if an artist starts their career already famous, especially famous just for something as shallow as their looks, then I expect them to bring to the table what other famous artists are bringing. It’s not an inescapable hurdle. Her biggest flaw is that she has a couple good songs but her catalogue is overwhelmingly mediocre and unremarkable. And it’s not a male/female thing. I don’t listen to sombr because he has never intrigued me enough for me to want to hear any of his music, but also the fact that that he was by definition planted into the industry, also makes me not really view him as an artist but just a singer. I also feel the same way about really any singer that came from standard TikTok. If they were originally popular on TikTok for their musical talents then that’s different

You do have a point. I have always stood by my opinion that someone whose job title is 'singer' should be able to sing. It's about making the most of the opportunity once you're given it, and also showing respect to the fans by actually having talent behind the image. Anyone can learn to sing, so people like Taylor Swift piss me off when they have mediocre voices live because they have all the money and opportunity in the world but are too lazy to put in the effort to take lessons and train. So I guess it's kind of a complicated thing to have an opinion on. Artistic integrity

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Idk I feel like there's so much space for all preformers that I don't see why we should slander anyone. Like sure she's not the best vocalist alive, but makes really nice music. Not to mention we can't compare Gagas budget now to how Addison is now. Gaga had quite some rough moments as well and People were all annoyed when they called her bad or a Madonna's copy. I also don't get this just one queen stan card when there's so many incredible artists to follow and like.

I subconsciously divide everyone into categories

lyrical artists ( Lana Del Rey for example)

production artists ( songwriting and the capability to write the instrumental and music theory side of the song) (Gaga for example)

visual artists (Melanie Martinez for example)

Performance artists (Gaga, Beyoncé)

Singers ( those who aren’t too skilled but are ok) (Meghan trainor, Katy Perry)

Vocalists ( those that are great at singing ) (Ariana for example)

I can easily take most pop artists and fit them into a few of these categories. But for some reason I can’t really put Addison in any of those boxes other than just “singer”. She hasn’t really proven herself to me along with a few of the other newer artists to have strong enough portfolios where I could confidently say they check any of those other boxes.
