The truth is that the music industry and market are changing. So is the way we consume music. Its inevitable that "star power" will dilute, makining it increasingly harder for all artists to actually stand out. Nowasays a #1 in the H100 seems to be the benchmark for a hit. I suspect that will change to top 10 in a few years when more and more artists struggle to even get there

back when i was a kid the billboard hot 100 top 10 used to dictate my music taste and what were the songs that were playing everwhere, now i look at this list and im so confused

Honestly for a second single and a 5 minute song in a genre not currently dominating this is still very good. There’s a very activated country/conservative market in the US right now and it feels like Ella is benefitting from the  Morgan fanbase (regardless of whether she herself is actually problematic).

I mean, only 1 song can be at #1 at any given time. The number of spots in the top 10 also do not change so its all relative

 

How we consume music changes, how spread out success is can also change, but the number of songs in the top 10 remain 10 any any given time nevertheless
