It's only an inherently ugly term if you hold concious or subconcious biases that lead to ugliness.  

Mutiliation is the medical and legal term. We're discussing a medical science report and a medical procedure.

Oh it's a factor for sure, but also the whole masculine purity, feminine "depravity" thing has traces in a lot of cultures. Throughout the years men with very little tiny penises and even tinier self esteem have decided it's kinda gay to get an eraction, actually, even gayer to cum and how dare you be well endowed, you must be dimwit.

But I would also say the cleanness thing was a big deal back then. Egyptians for the most part didn't care much about a man's race or **** size or even promiscuity (though kind of frowned upon) rather his character and role in Egyptian society (builder, farmer, artist, etc) and his limitation within said role.
