Taylor Swift is not exactly renowned for her makeup or clothes, so...yeah. :awkney:

Gaga would absolutely do it too if Taylor wasn't so criticized for doing it

She's already released several useless MAYHEM variants. The only reason she didn't put out more is that the #1 rule in her career now is keeping great PR

Gaga is wrong for doing it too but Taylor is taking it to a whole different level.

Putting a voice memo or accoustic version available on a single variant, available for a limited time, strategically releasing more variants to secure more weeks at #1 when competition is tough, releasing new variants couple hours after release (Midnights 3 am version, 3 hours after release, and The Anthology 2 hours after release), releasing remixes to boost specific songs on the hot 100... All of her releases are done with charts as a priority, even her music videos now aren't released on youtube because it doesn't impact charts anymore

Also controversial and slightly off topic take but why are rockers so desperate to be popstars? It feels like most people who make rock music now just envy popstars instead of keeping their nose in their own business and lane. Back in the 70s - 90s Rockers used to want to just make rock music and go against the system, but since the 2000s til now they all seem to just want to basically be popstars without making pop music. Which is impossible.

Rockstars and popstars clashing are nothing new tho?

The "pop artists are hollow" are coming from rock and jazz community of old. Mainly because for them most pop music artists are manufactured, didn't say anything of value, and many were not able to play music instruments. Boybands and Britney Spears and co got a lot of flack back in the day.

It's only gets better lately.

I get the clash but I mean more nowadays Rockstars seem more envious than disparaging. I mean look at Panic! At The Disco and Paramore. They went from punk rock bands to legit pop bands to the point their frontmen (and woman) became popstars.

Seems like Rock people just want to be popstars and only get into being a Rocker because they don’t possess the personality or branding to be a popstar that’s all.

Look at Gaga, she’s a rocker at heart but possesses a personality and personal branding that helped her become a popstar. Rock vs Pop has always just get like envy imo

I mean Brandon Urie is just a fame ***** - Haley has always rebelled against genre lockouts. And realistically both bands were commercial products tapping into a preestablished genre resurgence so I don't think they are good examples or fair critiques of modern rockstars

To be fair my dad and I spoke about it once and he said there’s no rockstars in the 21st century anyway. I mean sure he has generational bias but I take his point, people beyond rock knew rockers like Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Hendrix, Gene Simmons and Kurt Cobain for example.

I know YungBlud is trying to be one but I’m not sure really.

I mean, rock is no longer that big so there won't be any one of the same level of profile for sure.
But there's absolutely rock bands who are that level of popular within their genre of rock - Ghost & Sleep Token are massive and have cross-genre appeal, BMTH  & TOP do well to name some other bands off the top of my head.

Those names reached the heights they did because rock was popular music, it's not anymore. Sales are still strong but it's been slaughtered streaming wise.

Nope. I love Haus Labs. The visuals, the music, everything was incredible. Hot take, but I wish she’d release more!

I know my dad says that’s not real rock music anymore and that rock died when Kurt became famous. My best friend loves a lot of those modern bands though especially BMTH

You are rare breed, but  the fan base as majority really did hate her for Haus Labs, and still do each time she is involved in promoting new products.

Why does he say it died with Kurt?

Kurt Cobain was also very against this type of system and fame itself
