I mean, it should be pretty expected that a list of the most-played songs off a platform where you don’t pay-per-play (in the way an iTunes for example operated) would be dominated by songs that are digestible and generic enough to be understood by the GP and global audiences, added to playlists, etc. 

It’s also worth noting how many of these are from 2017-2019, when Spotify was in a period of hyper growth and just before the pandemic hit. They’ve obviously also had much more time to accrue streams than hits released after (post pandemic, price hikes, filtering, etc.).

Well, there’s nothing nostalgic about Shape Of You. Sure, a few benefited from nostalgia or viral trends like Sweater Weather and Heat Waves, but the rest are just generally very accessible songs.

Im glad im not the typical GGD fan that hates anything that isnt by a female pop artist and even then, they hate half of them too. I actually get to enjoy a lot of whats out there. I dont know how yall do it

I'm not saying that Shape Of You is about nostalgia, I'm saying that the songs come from eras that the GP are nostalgic for.
