Where are you guys getting these ideas from the drums are literally identical, you can especially tell in the last few seconds of Killah Same for DWAS (R), those drums are definitely taken right from Nightcall I’m sorry lol British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS

And therefore requires said credits, no?

He produced and wrote the lyrics of Closer. Isn't it clear they are only crediting him for the lyrics? Why not both?

I have no idea tbh He’s listed as a producer too on the OG track so maybe crediting the track’s biggest contributor was sufficient? I think it’s a nice gesture, but is arguably not required because it’s a one off-call out/reference and not meaningfully integrated into bulk of the song. Probably safer and more ethical to do it, tho. Edited 15 hours ago by Ladle Ghoulash We have forgotten our public MANNERS

No. It isn’t required; it’s simply a nice gesture. 34 minutes ago, Mr Oak said: Even so, Reznor is now credited as songwriter. He produced and wrote the lyrics of Closer. Isn't it clear they are only crediting him for the lyrics? Why not both? In this case, songwriter is the correct credit. He is neither a performer nor a producer of the song being performed (in this case, Killah). He’s credited as a songwriter of the material that is being referenced. Gaga (massive) taking from Kavinsky (smaller) and saying nothing is literally the same power dynamic as Taylor crushing Olivia, just without the paperwork. You think you're defending artists from the system, but you're actually defending the right of big artists to quietly eat smaller ones with zero acknowledgment. That's not resisting capitalism : that's capitalism's dream scenario. Frictionless extraction, no receipts. Do you credit Zizi Jeanmaire for your clever reference to your feathery hole?

They are not structurally the same, nor are they even the same notes. For Killah, it quite literally is only similar in vibe, created through syncopation, bass phrasing, pacing, and tension/release. For DWAS, again the similarities are stylistic. Arpeggiated minor-key analog synths and similar pacing. The notes are not the same. It is like DWAS lives in Nightcall’s universe. Inspired, not interpolated.

Case and point “Closer” samples Iggy Pop “Nighclubbing” for the drums but it is not a credited sample either on “Closer” or in this case “Killah”
