RAMROD 117,095
The music is just bad and her shtick is overdone. Lizzo and Katy Perry need to move on from banal self empowering songs, it's not 2015 anymore. Take a look around, time is uncertain and dark and people need better kind of self empowering songs to cope. I’m asking genuinely, not to argue. People mention Olivia Dean, Raye, and other newer girls. From what I see there’s a massive push for these new artists, just like there was for Lizzo at one point. It’s almost as if once the juice (haha) is squeezed, you get shelved. I was under the impression that the “algorithm” we’re talking about works hand in hand with the industry. Labels pay for promotion on TikTok, bots for engagement to drive up more viewers. People are saying she doesn’t make great music, which is subjective, but maybe she’s implying that labels/the powers that be don’t pull and push the buttons anymore that feed the algorithm for her. For all we know, these new girls that we’re saying “powered through” will also see a drop off in the months/years to come just like Lizzo. I just think we’re more swayed and influenced than we think. Artists we say make great music or are the new icons..how much of that is kind of instilled upon us by the algorithm? We accuse artists of using payola on this forum all the time, but when Lizzo says she’s not getting that kind of help we just chalk it up to her music being sh*t. I genuinely think that’s what her label wants from her, because her mixtape didn’t involve any of the corny body positivity stuff.

hamartia 3,029
Tbh whenever an artist gets upset about their label not supporting them or promoting their projects, I think it’s more a reflection on how they’re frustrated they’ve not been able to maintain that initial level of success they achieved with their first hit album/song. They seem to either accept that and keep making music just for the love of it for a smaller core audience, innovate and reinvent themselves to varying degrees of success, or they get bitter and blame the label or the algorithm or whatever whilst they keep putting out the musical equivalent of throwing spaghetti at the wall. I can totally sympathise with how frustrating it must feel to not feel like you’re being put out their, especially because the industry is everything-phobic and casts artists aside once they’ve made money on them, but you’re never going to win any public support by acting like you deserve success simply because you’ve had it before. One more playlist spot or podcast interview isn’t going to make you a mega star if the music isn’t authentic anymore "I lied. I lied!" When does she “flip the script”?
