She could get engaged to a billionaire like Gaga did

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

The algorithm can indeed make or break an album, but SO CAN THE MUSIC. If the music is amazing, it's gonna break through if you're as established as Lizzo. Look at smaller artists like Olivia Dean and Raye who have really broken through in the past years; it's because of the art, not the marketing. Amazing art will finds it's way to people.

That’s not true :laughga:

there’s so much amazing art out there that gets shoved down because the algorithm deems it “low quality” because people didn’t flock to it the minute it dropped. It’s happened  countless times to artist.

All her songs sound like they came off the same album tho. No artistic growth the past decade.

Not really. The mixtape was very fun and different from what she usually does. The singles for what I believe is her new album however DO sound like the same thing she always does. I wish she just went full throttle for MFHFS. It’s some of her best work, and has Doja, and Sza. The label should’ve put money behind promo and videos for it.

It’s been clear for over a year now that there’s a disconnect between her and the label. She dropped two (bad) singles before the mixtape that were very cliche Lizzo, dropped the mixtape that didn’t include them, and then more same-old (bad) Lizzo singles for a new album. But hey, what do I know?

Too many haters in here. That mixtape is really good. It’s another case of the label getting it wrong. I’ve seen so many artists over the last few years scrap eras and restart because the label wanted to go in a different direction and they keep getting it wrong. If you guys think algorithms and promo have no say…you’re very mistaken. Some of the other artists mentioned in this thread did not make it off of their music alone, and you’re extremely foolish to believe that.
If they supported MFHFS it would’ve been a great summer for her. At least three tracks had massive potential, but most people didn’t know she dropped it. That mixtape’s sound is what the GP is eating up right now, but they let it flop.
Labels have the power to make anything successful, but they let money and greed influence their decisions to a fault.

I feel like her music and persona are all about being outspoken and paying the haters no mind. It continues to be the same thing from her and people aren’t here for it. She’s trying too hard to be unbothered while also trying to flip the script and it definitely reads as inauthentic.

There's something about technology and the internet that make art more accessible, yet now we are inundated with content, and the bizarre consequence of this tsunami of content, is everything is fed through computers and algorithms. we no longer have agency and choice, no sense of discovery.

Odd take.
Unbothered by “haters”, sure, but she can still be outspoken. I’m not sure how expressing her concerns with algorithms makes her less authentic. If anything it contributes to her being outspoken like you said she she’s known for. Are you calling her hypocritical for being “unbothered” and still calling out the way the industry functions?

She's a bit delusional thinking that the algorithm is the reason her album is flopping...

Interesting response.

What I’m trying to say is that what she talks about in her music isn’t interesting or anything pushing any sort of boundary. The personality that she chooses to project is too wrapped up in the same old gooey, inspirational self esteem aesthetic. It’s just not going over well.

Especially considering the algorithm and Tiktok are the only reason she became a household name after Truth Hurts and Good as Hell went viral on there a few years after they were released

And at what point does that become inauthentic? When she makes videos about the industry? I’m confused. When does she “flip the script”?

The algorithm definitely decides a lot in this day and age. But what's more important, to get people to rally up behind you is a narrative. Why do you deserve a success story? Why should we root for you? Where do you fit in current culture?

Lizzo as a person and her values, that made her stand out, don't fit into the Ozempic culture we're in. I do think though, when the tides shift someone like her, who stood her ground, will stand out.

And how tf did people ever even find out about anything before we had the algorithm then??? It's such a weird take coming from her, an established artist, when in reality the ones hurt most by algorithms BY FAR are up and coming artists trying to get their foot in the door. There's so much incredible art we'll never know about just because it all gets lost in *the algorithm*

Meanwhile, if you're one of the extremely lucky ones who already have a platform and managed to publish several songs to varying degrees of mainstream success, when people forget who you are, never look up your name themselves and can't be bothered to stay engaged with your art - then maybe what you put out just isn't all that interesting...? :oprah:
