No tracking whatsoever, it's like we learned nothing from the horrors of Covid (though yes, of course hantavirus is something very different, but it just HAD to be this one strain...). Thanks for keeping tabs. We shouldn't panic but be vigilant all the same, like you. Hoping the Dutch flight attendant gets well AND HER MOVEMENTS TRACKED. :fail:Ā 8 weeks is a super long incubation phase and she's now just unwell...

So apparently they got off before it was confirmed what this was.Ā

Concerning we can’t track them though.Ā

Glad to hear you’re still getting boosted, but boosters only seem to have marginal impact on reducing post COVID sequelae and long COVID overall (40% being the upper range of prevention). Was fully boosted and have had long COVID for about 4 years with no end in sight. Not trying to soapbox here, but there’s pretty solid evidence that, in spite of vaccination status, repeated COVID infections result in chronic immune dysregulation for years after and, anecdotally, I feel that’s pretty well-represented by the fact that everyone seems to be getting sick way more frequently and for longer durations than they were years ago (getting multiple colds and flus a year outside of ā€œcold and flu season,ā€ having intense colds for 2.5 weeks etc.).
Ā

A recent study actually showed that, when looking at the overall health of individuals who had COVID, had COVID and ā€œrecovered,ā€ and those who had long COVID, the biggest differential was not between those who had recovered and had never had it vs. those with long COVID, but rather between those who had had it and those who had not. No doubt the US is in a worse position than many other countries, but this is by no means just a US problem, unfortunately.

I've read those studies (booster effects on Long Covid, and one only in Dutch unfortunately that was peer-reviewed that argued the same as you - that all these shots are good for people who never had it, but that many more infections post-Covid inevitably lead to immune dysregulation where boosters are indeed probably NOT helping especially those with Long Covid and we need other solutions - which,Ā  duh). I'm a bit shocked, sad and angry to hear that you have it, and have had it especially for so long already... I really wish you the speediest possible recovery, from the bottom of my heart. I just want to hug you and get all sentimental (I really didn't expect this).

But realistically, Long Covid is something we should all be campaigning for, for more quantity AND more radical studies re: treatment and somehow governments seem to want to declare Covid "over" rather than face the truth : many people have had their lives not only upended, they're STILL VERY SICK. Not contagious, but they feel so so muchĀ worse, they're chronically sick. I've always hated the lack of urgency when Long Covid finally even gotĀ acceptedĀ and it was like, yes, we'll fund some research. But nowhere near the urgency for Covid shots themselves ofc. And then you have a mass of doctors wo'd still say it's all in your head, the bastards. I'm shocked and want to support you, however far away, please know my messages are always open. Good for you to name the problem loud and clear so people actually get it.

My country had serious problems and had area-bound disasters like all of them, but were quite good in handling fast and efficiently when they finally got to work. I was, I guess, lucky enough to never have had one Covid infection due to already being bedridden (chronic nerve pain and infection of said nerve branches) and my family really almost not leaving the house for the first year and a half and ordering our food from outside. Then me as well as my parents being proritized on the list to get shots and boosters all having NOT had it... I would've been a prime candidate since I have several autoimmune things going on as well... I'm so sorry, I'm not satisfied doing nothing at all (just who I am, an annoying b!tch who wantsĀ  people who have power to keep their promises by making them want to get rid of meĀ :crossed:) so I'm contacting and borderline harassing my representatives, who are EU so not much direct possible help, but we need NOISE. We need research - we need solutions. It doesn't matter where or how we learn more. I'm so angry again (I've gone through this with another friend in the States) I'll dig up their email and phone number again in no time, I'm serious.

Us chronically sick people who have to fight for recognition, help, everything basically need to stick together. You are so strong, even though you obviously don't feel that way sometimes/most of the time. Never forget that you ARE. Chronic suffering awakes things in you you couldn't have imagined before. So many hugs and solidarity.

I can't do much more, but like I said I'll get both my national and EU representative. We might be weak and sick but we need to make the noise we can and use the tools we still have. Sending so much love.:kara:Ā Sorry for the rambling.

Yesterday the president of the Canary Islands was worried about the ship arriving here, you'd think is something obvious to worry about, but then he added "'cause this could scare tourism and we are touristics islands" showing he wasnt worried about us, but worried about not getting profit from tourism.

What? That's disgusting!Ā :deadbanana:Ā How can you not be embarrassed to say and act like that when you're primarily entrusted with the wellbeing of the people who live there, not randoms from the outside. I get GDP and economic fears (I studied Behavioral Economics) but that's just toxic, lacking in humanity and indeed a peek behind the curtain of how tourism or overtourism is viewed/encouraged. I hope you somehow soon get an actual President who dares to care for the people and at least places that dollar second. Diversifying income streams, any way to make it easier to look after all local residents in the best possible way, as well as preserving your land.

Thanks for reassuring me about my amazing visits but dang, to even thinkĀ that, let alone say it out loud... Wishing you all the best, truly.Ā

WHO has informed 12 countries whose nationals disembarked in Saint Helena.
Those 12 countries are Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Oceanwide Expeditions, the company that owns the ship, confirmed on Thursday that 30 guests — including six Americans — disembarked the Hondius on Saint Helena, an incredibly remote island in the middle of the South Atlantic, on April 24, and then returned on their own to their countries of origin.Ā Ā The Dutch Foreign Ministry put the number at about 40. The company had not previously said publicly that dozens more people left the ship on April 24.Ā x

I understand the sentiment but the way you phrased it makes it sound like their lives are worth less than ours.

I mean, they absolutely should be quarantined from the general population if they’re infected. Don't really see the need to tone police that.Ā

'Stay the fck away from us omg' is a very different message from 'I hope this doesn't spread out to the rest of the world'

The second is strategic and rational; the first has more than a hint of selfishness in it. We're Gaga fans, we of all fanbases should recognise how tact and class could make a world of difference.

You do know we are in a social media forum right? Sometimes we dont have to take everything we read at the literal meaning of their words. I agree with you in principle thoĀ
