AsleepOnTheCeiling 6,974
An 8 week incubation period would make the spread of this virus an absolute nightmare. And it also means the bird watchers could have already had the virus before the cruise and it could already be spreading.Ā 2

27monster27 15,869
I just can't believe that the people didn't get quarantined on the cruise ship. EDIT: I did further reading, and apparently it was revealed that people were unaware of the situation until it was too late to quarantine. Still though, all people who were on the ship should be monitored. Edited May 8 by 27monster27 he/him/his

Ladle Ghoulash 53,135
FWIW: Prof Hotez, who was largely spot on with his predictions about the scale and scope of COVID, does not seem toĀ believe this strand of hantavirus will become a full blown pandemic like COVID did. Lord Mayhem 3,430
Yeah I've been following this for a few days now...we're cooked Infected were on flights and at airports showing no symptoms until later... Multiple countries reporting cases all in a matter of days... 35-40% mortality rate...COVID was only 3.5-4%...its 10x deadlierĀ No cure... This is the Andes variant... the only one that transmits human to human Ā Ā Ā

Plus the 8 week incubation period with zero symptoms til much later is the concerning part... The perfect virus to spread undetected and worse than COVID. I am extremely confused and disappointed in the handling of those cruise members...however it appears even before the cruise it was already spreading on flights so its far beyond the ship at this point Cases popping up worldwide proves that...
