The stage / show looks really cool it's just a shame she's so cringe and has a heinous sounding voice

Was there a demand for this ???

Amongst her fans yeah. Her last two live things (Witness Tour and PLAY) were both filmed but never released so she hasn’t actually had a pro-shot concert put out since around 2015.

Now, I don’t care to watch this as I think the show is bad despite a cool production, but her fans have been very starved for this sort of thing so I get it.

The fact that she filmed this tour but not the one for Witness :awkney:

Well she did film it. Two nights in Vancouver. She just never released it.

shame on Tribeca FF for taking this instead of more independent filmmakers with ACTUAL Film projects

That’s….not how Tribeca works. At all.

Just because they take one out of competition film does not mean they’re not taking another independent filmmaker’s film for the main line festival.

From it’s very inception Tribeca has offered premiere showings of non indie films (though I do think this concert film was indeed independently made) outside of the normal programming schedule. Star Wars Episode II, Insomnia, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, etc all premiered at Tribeca. It has ALWAYS had a studio presence. The first film EVER screened there was a studio film. It is not a purely indie fest and never has been.

It’s to hell with Katy Perry all day every day but not for this. And no not shame on Tribeca for operating the same way they always have for 26 years.

you mentioned all the narrative studio films - some of those had great reviews and interest from the audience, I’m sure.

Katy’s film is non-narrative, it’s a music concert of a pop-star in decline… If anything it paints Tribeca FF in not the best light… It’s giving random cheap festival that would take anything with a known name attached to it.

Also, just because it was operating like this the past 26 years - I don’t see why they can’t evolve? If anything - they’ve degraded - if they’ve taken Katy’s documentary from 2012 for instance - I’d have no questions, but the concert film… Please - this is not Star Wars, it’s a barely even a “film”.
