And like...most of the vegan and veggie options in stores are ultra-processed which is incredibly bad for your health.

Eating a healthy vegan diet is near impossible for people on low wages because celebrities made it trendy and therefore costly.

This, as you have to plan it out first and slowly transition before you strip away important food groups, as it'll lead to vitamin deficiencies such as iron deficiencies, lacking in omega-3s, and reaching for the wrong things like ultra-processed foods like you said. It's especially harder if you live in different countries (cough cough....US), that don't provide high-quality food easily as others.

Sliiightly off-topic, but I love researching about the different ways people eat in other countries and nutrition. In Edo Japan, buddhism was high, and they forbid meat other than fish (but most people would eat it in secret...lol) Their diets would consist of plenty soybean products, rice, had a variety of vegetables when they sat down to eat. These foods are either fermented, picked, grilled, boiled, etc which is good for your overall health. Wheat products weren't introduced until later, so things like Tempura didn't come until then (Tempura was made when Portugal missionaries introduced the cooking method of frying food with batter via Nanban trade period). Their carbs mostly consisted of rice.

So, you don't need to eat meat at high volumes to have a balanced diet. It's important to treat animals with high-quality care and not brutalize them just because they're going to get eaten anyway. (As for life expectancy, I'll have to research about that too, but other than that, yeah...)

Sorry but eating meat is not inherently wrong. The unethical consumption of it, in today's world, is. For some people eating meat over a plant based diet is purely from an economic standpoint. Literally is more expensive in a lot of regions of the world to consume a healthy plentiful plant based diet than to eat meat.

And in two things can coexist at the same time in the same person, society, etc. So you can love your puppies, cats, parrots, etc and still eat meat.

I wish I could be a vegetarian but I just lit can't afford it.

She worded in a very privileged celebrity way, but it's not a bad thought.

The thing is, many people would quit meat but they don't have the means to. There are foods that can kiinda do the job meat does, but many of them aren't accessible or affordable, and a completely vegan diet needs planning and willpower. For example, I would have trouble eating the right amounts of legumes/greens because my stomach is ****. The vegan substitutes are hyper-processed and pricy, when I tried them out for some time they made me feel horrible. But I like animals, so for now I try to eat meat as little as I can. If one day people will come up with an affordable, accessible and SAFE substitute for meat, I would quit eating it right away especially because meat tends to taste bad anyway (awful life and feed for the animals make awful meat).

Not to mention that people who love animals and keep carnivore/omnivore pets will have to buy meat products which harm other animals.

It's easy to be morally superior to everyone when you are rich living in your mansion (on stolen land lol) with access to any food you could imagine.

You know cutting an animal's head clean off may be one of the more humane ways to die tho

from the way they put it across it was with a knife and not quick but maybe I got the wrong impression

Not carnivores pets opinions... :traumatica:

More seriously, she should do a message to slaughterhouses that provide deplorable living conditions for animals.

It's maybe more about decent living conditions for the animals.

Probably under substances... An alchemist is born !

Billie, you can love men, you can love women, you can’t love both :abra:

But honestly, at the end if the day, she’s a little white girl living in LA, with a sh*t load of money, the kind that loves to have too many opinions on too many things.

But this is honestly the reason why absolutist sloganeering is really bad for generating discussion: by refusing the space in which I’d imagine most people exist (eats meat, but fundamentally does care about/wants the ethical treatment of animals), you’re both misrepresenting and flattening what they actually think and feel while also forcing them into an essentially unwinnable binary, which naturally triggers defensiveness. Advocating for the ethical treatment of animals is one thing, but claiming that it’s wholly incompatible to love animals while simultaneously consuming animal products is a completely different statement. This type of messaging does precisely nothing for advocating for animals, imo, and, if anything, it negatively polarizes people that might be otherwise inclined to agree with her broader argument.

i would love to be vegan, it would be very beneficial to me, but my iron deficiency would have words to say about it.  i can't afford the medication needed to keep iron levels steady, even the supplements i do take don't always help.

everyone keeps saying "oh, he's back, he's back!" but the truth is i never left!
