Human's have grey areas because of our freedom of thought, being absolute about things like this is why people don't take Vegans seriously tbh. Plus in some parts of the world they find it odd that we don't eat the animals we keep as pets, some even find the animals we already eat as sacred and would never.

Veganism and it's culture is very much a white person made thing for moral standing, there's even famous vegan celebrities who admit they on occasion will still use things like eggs and milk or "treat themselves" to a Pizza. Even the most vegan of vegans fall short, and not to mention Vegans notoriously have health problems based on their lack of Iron and Zinc in their diet, because as humans our evolutionary trait was to be Omnivores.

I have nothing against eating meat as long as it's sourced without inhumane cruelty. Hunting is a natural part of any carnivore/omnivore food chain.

It's just that ethical sourcing (using the term 'ethical' loosely) is damn near impossible nowadays – both in availability and pricing. The meat industry is evil for the way it treats animals and it has set the bar for quality of life extremely low. It's all about profit margins, literally at the cost of the animals.

I agree with Billie to an extent: those who claim to love animals AND who support the meat industry, are willfully ignoring the ugly parts of that food chain to keep their own conscience clean. 

What I also can't stress enough: we don't NEED meat anymore to have a varied and balanced diet. Especially not at the volume that we are consuming right now. Meat was important back when nutrition was scarce, but we have options from all over the world at our fingertips nowadays. Cruelty is optional.

And there are ways to more 'ethically' source meat. Meaning: ways to guarantee good quality of life for the animals. But the willingness to pay for that quality of life is not there on either the side of the industry OR the consumers.

I don't judge people who eat meat, because I understand how conditioned we all are to turn a blind eye in the name of convenience and culture. I only stopped eating meat last year and it took me a loooong time to get to that point. That cognitive dissonance was buried deep into my brain and still is, since I'm not fully vegan.

It's a difficult and complex issue, and too difficult to resolve in one quote by a celebrity. But I get where Billie is coming from.

I’ve been vegan for 8 years, so none of the reactions in this thread really surprise me. It’s always the same “meat is good, I’m gonna go eat some now” type of response.

I get it, kinda. When I went vegan, it wasn’t because I suddenly stopped liking the taste of animal products. It was a moral decision. At a certain point, my values just didn’t line up with continuing to consume them.

A lot of that comes from my background too. I grew up in the country with a dad who hunted, trapped, and skinned animals regularly, and there wasn’t much respect if any at all for them.

I also don't think vegans help with the "all or nothing" mentality though, that's not how you get people to consider their lifestyle.

Don't know how I feel about this take. Probably more so on the let people eat whatever they want to eat.

Buuuut, I get it. I stopped eating animals when I was 10 because some documentary broke my heart and it put me off for life. I'm pescatarian now, and the way I see it is if I was stuck on an island I'd definitely fish for food, but I couldn't eat a cow, he would be my bestie. :')
