I eat meat, but I think she's right. How can I say I love animals and then pay for their flesh? I can't give up meat yet but I can admit to myself that the way meat is sourced is ****ing disgusting and horrendous and diabolical and I'm not proud of financing that industry.

Anyone who can convince me otherwise, go ahead.

But this is honestly the reason why absolutist sloganeering is really bad for generating discussion: by refusing the space in which I’d imagine most people exist (eats meat, but fundamentally does care about/wants the ethical treatment of animals), you’re both misrepresenting and flattening what they actually think and feel while also forcing them into an essentially unwinnable binary, which naturally triggers defensiveness. Advocating for the ethical treatment of animals is one thing, but claiming that it’s wholly incompatible to love animals while simultaneously consuming animal products is a completely different statement. This type of messaging does precisely nothing for advocating for animals, imo, and, if anything, it negatively polarizes people that might be otherwise inclined to agree with her broader argument.

I remember in the 00s being Vegan was seen as totally extreme and no one I knew even considered it. Crazy how the times have changed. It's definitely big in the LA celebrity thing now though, all I know is that we had a trend for it in the UK for a while but now a lot of the vegan options that companies made to get on trend have been discontinued :trollga:

Most vegans share the same opinion.

Honestly, most people love domesticated pets but don’t care that animals we eat are slaughtered and treated in horrific ways.

It is what it is.

Not everyone is going to be a full vegan. But everyone can consume less meat and animal products if they choose.

I cut out most dairy from my diet and that’s my contribution. I’m not going vegan although I admire those that do

Id love to fix my IBS so i can also eat less meat also cuz its expensive af

The easiest plant alternatives for protein like beans, lentils and chick peas kill me. And thats so annoying cuz I actually love legumes and they are cheap. Life isnt fair :madge:

Based on this logic, does this mean she doesn't care about fruits and grains since she ate it as a vegan?

Yeah I just watched a new UK documentary and a worker was apparently caught cutting a cows head off while it was alive and it makes me feel disgusting that I eat meat, but I do and I've tried to go vegan a few times but keep going back to meat, but I do not want horrific things like that to happen to the animals. The system does need a change but there's corruption like basically every other aspect of life.

I love animals, but I eat meat that's cut for me so I don't have to do it myself. I feel bad for the whole chickens and turkeys I see in the store when I walk past them, and sometimes I get sad thinking about the cows that had to be sliced for steaks, but still, I eat meat. I don't think we should judge people for their dietary choices unless they're eating raw steak with runny eggs, avocado and drinking raw milk.

Meat has a lot of nutrients, and I mostly eat fish and poultry, but I make sure my meat is ethnical. There's a huge difference between standing for animal mistreatment and you know...just having a balanced omnivore diet.

Vegans eat plants, but does that mean they hate beans and leafy greens? No, it's their own choice and that works for them.

Ooh miss eyelash touched a nerve I see :cheeky:

Spiritually I feel the same way, but part of being vegan/veggie is (reluctantly) understanding that people are capable of EXTREME levels of cognitive dissonance re: literally everything, and that loving animals is not the same as not wanting to exploit animals. People love their companion animals, their families, and their friends and still do terrible things to them without a second thought :enigma:

I think that nuance is something you kind of grow into as you get older and see your veganism through a more political eye than a "let's be nice to the animals" way. It's hard and I still do side eye people when they talk about how much they loooove their precious fur babies, but that disconnect is very real for them unfortunately :enigma:

You know cutting an animal's head clean off may be one of the more humane ways to die tho

Sugar Baby

Eatting meat is literally a natural thing for humans

it’s part of our history and our success as species

our bodies are literally design to eat vegetables and meat

we can find better and more civilized ways to raise animals for our consuption but this mentality of treating Those who eat meat as monsters is non sense

I disagree actually.  Didn't always, but I do now.  I understand and respect her perspective though.

I promise Im not totally woo woo,  but I do believe on a spiritual level, experiencing physical life is not about surviving as long as possible - that’s a human/ego thing.  I believe animals are tapped into more than we humans are, and are just glad to experience life in the way they do for whatever amount of time they do.

That said, i completely believe we have a responsibility to provide animals we raise for food with a good quality of life, and quick and painless death. However,  I’d bet that most in the industry, sadly, do not do this. :(
