Excuse me, but it would seem that for BEBE, IF YOU ARE NOT POOR AND YOU ARE FROM THE MIDDLE CLASS YOU SHOULD ALREADY BE VEGAN.

Absolutely, that is the most ethical diet. You still haven’t been able to explain how your preference justifies the unnecessary torture and slaughter of animals

Billie Eilish doesn’t need to qualify every statement she makes with “unless you are stuck on an island with no other food and a pig or if you are unable to access any other food and need to hunt rats and pigeons to survive”. It’s ludicrous.

I’m against cannibalism but nobody is going to jump to quote me and argue that some people have had to eat human flesh in survival situations. People would know what I mean and wouldn’t argue a straw man.

It isn’t true that everybody in this thread is not living in these extreme examples of poverty. We all know this - people are arguing about barriers faced by those in a level of extreme poverty to justify their OWN diet.

Yeah girl, we're all sociopaths and Hannibal Lecters for you. B12 it's important for the brain functions, maybe you aint taking enough.

I'm so happy for you who believe it's better to buy a liter of nut milk for $6 (in my country) than a liter of long-life pasteurized cow's milk for $1.50. Or 500 grams of cheese for $5, versus 500 grams of vegan cheese for $25.

Stupid.

Bitch are you seriously comparing cannibalism (killing a human being and eating it) to eating a chicken wing on KFC?

Extreme implies that these are rare examples.

800 million people live in poverty globally. That's not rare.

Poverty exists in every single country.

And here's yet further evidence of my whole point about you.

You can't bring yourself to consider poverty as something other than a cartoon stereotype.

You ridicule the idea of systemic poverty.

Rather than legitimately engage with the discussion - which is fundamentally relevant to the discussion at hand created from a binary statement by an idiotic celebrity with a history of hypocrisy - you repeatedly try to alter the debate to avoid having to challenge your self created superior morality and repeatedly dismiss legitimate discussions of poverty with derision.

You've previously tried to deny possessing privilege - but its beyond clear from the flippancy you discuss real world poverty that this is just not the case.

Nobody is dismissing global poverty - you are boring. Once again if you need to eat meat to survive eat meat.

You and everyone knows Billie Eilish wasn’t screaming that Palestinian children can’t eat scraps of meat to survive as food aid trucks are blocked by Israel.

Stop fetishising poverty to defend your poor ethical choices.

I'm not defending my ethical choices.

And you have repeatedly mocked discussion of poverty and ridiculed examples of it. You tried to make the concept of poor children eating rats and pigeons an attack point against other users because you found the very idea of it derisible.

At no point have I said what diet I stick to. You simply make an assumption because you're evangelising and can only understand critics as a binary opposition.

I’m no longer going to respond in this thread, too many people quoting me.

I’ll end on this:

Nobody in this thread has been able to identify a diet and food production that is more, or even equally, ethical as plant based diets and food production. This is despite numerous users claiming they want to reduce animal suffering and believe it is possible with animal agriculture.

Nobody in this thread has been able to identify a diet and food production that is more or equally environmentally sustainable and responsible than plant based diets and food production. This is despite numerous users claiming they care about the environmental impacts of their diet and food production.

There has been an attempt to treat Billie Eilish’s statements, and my own, with the least amount of seriousness and argue against straw man positions. If you need to eat a pigeon to survive, eat a pigeon! If you have the option of tofu or lentils choose the tofu or lentils! Arguing that people who must consume meat to survive should consume meat is not the powerhouse argument you believe it is. It’s a knockout blow to the strawman you constructed.

At the end of the day nobody in this thread has been able to justify their own participation in the meat and dairy industry or been able to explain how they can claim to love animals while participating in an industry that tortures and murders them on such a large, almost inconceivable scale.

"your poor ethical choices" see? all of this sums up on this: your constant need to show everyone how good of a person you are. must be exhausting

I’ll admit I haven’t read this entire thread/discussion BUT I will say that we don’t have to defend or justify our diets.

We all participate in unethical behaviors willing or unwillingly every day.

If you participate in capitalism you are participating in the exploitation of people around the world.

Not everyone has the resources or education to make “ethical” dietary choices. People around the world are different.

Veganism is something that is currently not accessible to all people. You can’t expect humanity to overhaul its diet instantly. Food is culture, survival, and nutrition.

It’s totally possible to change behavior and culture but not by blaming the whole world for not doing something that isn’t readily available to them.
