I also think it’s smart because Confessions was a purposeful return to form which I think was a brilliant victory lap as well (full circle moment: Madonna releasing a disco revival record during the early 2000s nu disco wave, mirroring her coming up during the early 80s disco revival), but I think this time people are actually ready to give her her flowers. Feels like finishing the incomplete business of the first COAD era in that way.

Honestly who gives a fark about the charts, they are pure tragedy.. like stateside is the only interesting track in the top 10. The texas song at #1? A joke. The bruno song? Mediocrity at best.
