MajorMinus 403
1 hour ago, Jill said: You must be joking if you believe this has the same production capabilities as AI. The baby cage, in particular, served a contextual interest (among other things, preventing the spread of tuberculosis) and was not a technology that could be integrated into production in the same way as AI or, for instance, the assembly line. This truly is comparing apples to oranges. And when I say that "technology doesn't go back", I don't mean it can't be changed for logical reasons or based on empirical data. Rather I mean that when a shift in production occurs due to the introduction of a technology that streamlines it, reverting is impossible because it would be inconvenient from every possible angle: it would make things harder, not easier, for both the species and for production. This is the case of AI, it was the case for other machine-like inventions too. AI is social as is production itself. It's not individual. 100% agree with what you’ve posted. Your opinions are rooted in history and realism. I’m not happy with where this is going to go (as you said - technology is generally neutral, but given the greed-soaked capitalist society we live in, its implementation won’t be), but it will definitively be incorporated into society as a permanent structure (it kinda already is). We have used AI in so many ways for YEARS prior to this new wave of accessibility to the public. We have even been incorporating it in healthcare - AI reviews all of my head CTs and MRIs before I see them. Regardless of what people feel about AI…it’s here to stay. I genuinely can’t think of a single productive piece of technology that we no longer use (unless it’s been completely improved upon by another - like floppy discs).

All people really depend on to survive are other people, who may rely on technology to help their jobs of caretaking and etc. And if technology started to seem like an oasis, it's because the world has become such a sinister place to live that machines are a better "survive" source than people and nature. Most of humankind will never have access to the so-called wonders of technology, as it's our land and our people being explored in order to generate resources for powerful nations. We never see the "good side" of technology, it's not made for us, and it won't ever be. AI is just a part of the iceberg, because at the end of the day, when they destroy our environments and the planet is inhospitable, they'll be able to live in a spaceship or whatever, and the people will stay here. I don't believe in the glorification of murder, I do believe in the empowerment of women
RaveMonster 540
17 hours ago, Jill said: But it reflects a human vision. That doesn't change. It's not like you ask the AI to generate "cute videos". It has a process to it. It can be thoughtful or not, but the same thing goes for any work like this, AI or not. And again, this same exact thing can be said about the work of VFX artists. This is such an ass take People using generative AI to make “art” isn’t remotely similar to VFX artists making CGI. Generative AI copies and manipulates already existing art to generate content for individuals who don’t want to actually want to spend any time or skills on crafting things. The problem isn’t how much time they spend creating something, the problem is that AI isn’t imagining something new, it’s stealing from other artists and passing it as an original concept without asking for permission or giving any credits to the original creator. There’s room for AI in the industry but art isn’t art if your craft is based on stealing other people’s work.
RoadToLouis 175
AI should be used in entertainment to support the work of the creative minds, not to replace them. It’s a great way to make entertainment more cost efficient, to reduce timelines and allow corporations to take more creative risks. This… It just feels wrong. Like replacing writers, producers, hair and makeup artists, costume designers, animators, editors, etc etc for an extra buck kind of wrong.
