Having been to Coachella twice, in my experience, most of Coachella isn't like that. Those are so-called "influencers." A lot of people are there for the music & vibes and dress comfortably and practically (some accomplish being stylish along with being comfortable). Weekend 2 is better because there are fewer influencers and celebrities, and thus it's more laidback. The laidback folks who are there just to chill aren't posting selfies and videos, so it's hard to see that side of the festival from social media. No one's filming the ordinary people who are just vibing with the music and sitting on blankets eating overpriced slices of pizza.

To me a festival is being in the mud, having barely any sleep, dancing in the rain and doing so many dr*gs you can barely sleep for 3 days. It’s p*ssing in broken and disgusting toilets and vibing with strangers. Not whatever Coachella is tbh I feel like Americans wouldn’t survive a day at Glasto for instance

I’m not surprised people may have enjoyed this because after seeing how un-festival like Coachella is from social media, it’s basically people making a whole hotel room out of their car and trying hard to get selfies of outfits and celebs.

America in general is just not a real place to me lol

And that's why you don't assume from things you saw on social media. That’s like saying a concert is just VIP lounges because that’s all Instagram shows :ororomunroe:

As a veteran, who've attended several times, I must say you’re describing the internet version of Coachella. It gives a really skewed version of it. It highlights the most aesthetic or exclusive parts, not the actual festival experience. If you’ve been, you know it’s mostly about music sets, crowds, heat, and chaos, just like any other music festivals, not just influencer photo ops

(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ goddamn this noise inside my head (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

Back in the high school, when I was in class I would scroll on youtube for random bullsh*t  and I would get in trouble. But when Justin does the same thing on the coachella stage, he gets paid $10m for it? Oh ok, I see how it is ...

everyone here knows that I'm not going to make life easy.

you’d really enjoy European (mostly UK) festivals then tbh depending on ur music taste there’s one for everything here you’ve got ones for Dance/House, Hip-Hop/R&B/Rap, Pop, Family Friendly ones, Rock, mixed genres there’s tons.

I said this in the Katy thread, but I’ll reiterate it here:

So much of today’s male artists are such an embarrassment, my god. Give me production and theatricality like Bowie, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Queen, Prince, etc., etc. The fact that male artists today are getting away with doing the bare minimum is frustrating, especially when female artists will get crucified for the simplest things.

Coachella for non-influencers is like this, except there's dirt instead of mud, and usually no rain because it's the desert. It's extremely hot and dry during the day, then suddenly cold at night because of the desert, and the wind blows around all the desert dust. People wear bandanas over their noses and mouths to protect themselves from the dust, and then if it gets really hot, you wet down the bandana and wrap it around your neck to cool off.

The non-VIP toilets are portable toilets made of plastic that don't flush, stink like piss & you-know-what, and you're holding your nose the whole time.

It's just that people who are chilling like this aren't curating content for social media, and no one's filming them for their content, so you don't see this side of it if you're not actually there. You also walk like 30,000 steps a day, and every part of your dust-covered body aches. You leave the festival sneezing black snot and with the souvenir of Coachella cough, hobbling along because you can't walk properly, totally sleep-deprived, and a couple weeks later, your big toenails fall off. The bougie content you see is from people who barely engage with the festival.

People help each other out, share food, kandi, and party favors with each other, vibe to the music together, etc. Most people don't camp out at barricade and check out different sets throughout the day. Most of these types of folks are in GA, and the influencers you see tend to congregate in VIP, but VIP is way less fun. I think half of those people making videos don't even stay for the full festival.
