FfFfFfFF 58,120
A senior Ukrainian official has warned that Russia may be exploring plans to establish a buffer zone in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia region, near the breakaway territory of Transnistria. Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, said in an interview on April 8 that while Russia frequently adjusts its timelines, its primary military focus in 2026 remains the Donbas region. However, he noted that Moscow could intensify operations in southern Ukraine—particularly along the Zaporizhzhia axis—if conditions allow. Palisa added that Russia’s broader plans reportedly include creating buffer zones in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, as well as setting conditions for potential offensives targeting Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. In the longer term, he said, Russia may aim to advance toward Mykolaiv and Odesa. For the first time, Palisa said, Ukrainian officials have observed indications that Russia could consider a buffer zone extending toward Vinnytsia from the direction of Transnistria, a Moscow-backed separatist region in Moldova. He cautioned, however, that Russia likely lacks sufficient forces at present to carry out all these objectives simultaneously. 27monster27 15,868
Yo I heard about this! That's wild and is definitely a way to make this war more high risk than it already is given the connection Transnistria has to Moldova and in turn Romania, which is a NATO country. I can't see this being very successful though given the current state of the Russian military. he/him/his
