Depends on the artist and the concept of the album. The average should be like 10-12 songs and that works for most of them. Very few can pull a 15-16+ songs when they truly care about the quality of each of them and not just put them as filler.

I weirdly agree. When I looked up Taylor Swift Tortured Poets The Anthology and saw it was 2 hours and 3 mins long, and 31 songs, I never listened to it, it seemed too long.

Althuhh if Gaga had a record that long I would totally listen to it. I guess my default would be I don’t want to invest the time getting to know a super long album unless I’m really invested in the artist.

wrong, even her own songs are longer than normal clocking in at 4:07 for Dancing on my own, 4:15  for With Every Heartbeat, and 4:12 for Cobra style

lmao i think it mostly comes down to genre, artist and songs. some 3:30+ sounds don't feel long at all yet some 3:00 songs feels like it drags on too much. if theres no variety in the album it can get boring ala Taylor Swift, but nah i respectfully disagree with her

But you give an extreme example because the whole purpose of the 31 songs is to cheese streams and be #1.. most of the songs are fillers and could have stayed in her precious vault for another round of re-release in 10 years.

 

It all depends on the album honestly, like BTW, 61 minutes, could have been shorter if Hair and others were shorter, because Hair is too long just for the sake of being long, half of the song is the same line over and over.

Chromatica on the other is 43 minutes, which feels long, but most of the songs are short, like Alice and 911 and I would have prefer them to be longer and the album could have been perfect if it hit the 60 minutes and let these songs shine.
