No, I completely get what you mean. My comment was exactly interpreted like that by MULTIPLE people, which is why I made too many comments to count below that post explaining myself, and I’m still doing it here, explaining what I meant in-depth.

Extrapolating based on things you’ve said isn’t a strawman argument lmao. However, assuming the stance of Addison detractors relative to Britney based on vague and unqualified criterion to knock it down real quick is, indeed, a strawman argument.

But do you also get that making that comparison while basically framing it in a way where the comparison is only relevant insofar as you define it is not a particularly good faith way of engaging with others? That’s the reason why people didn’t and haven’t taken the comparison well lol

What about when the other person is adamant on continuously explaining their view, showing how your extrapolation is actually a misinterpretation and is wrong, yet you keep extrapolating it like that, essentially choosing which parts of their dialogue you want to take seriously?

If you mean that about my initial one-sentence comment below that post, that actually was just a semi-serious pop forum comment I made, which was misinterpreted by multiple people, I felt the need to explain it, and I feel like I did that clearly.

Well, yes, but the thing is I really did try to explain myself under that comment and defend my position, which was not to compare their talent levels or artistry, but to draw a parallel between their criticisms and Addison’s prominent imagery based on Britney’s artistry.

If you mean that about my initial one-sentence comment below that post, that actually was just a semi-serious pop forum comment I made, which was misinterpreted by multiple people, I felt the need to explain it, and I feel like I did that clearly.

I don’t really think the extrapolation is a misinterpretation because I think you and I just disagree about where the bar is and how high the bar goes for Addison. You see her as having way more potential than I do, which is part of the reason why I feel praising the performance where it is is lowering the bar (because I don’t see her getting much better than this). I understand your points (honestly, I do), but I also think that the tone of the conversation became kind of defensive and more of a series of essays as opposed to a discussion.

But the point that I’m making is: I think with each reinterpretation of the comparison, you interpreted it as an attack on your POV, when it was really just different people sizing up the artists against each other in different ways. I just feel like the tone of this whole exchange has been you feeling like people are trying to maliciously misunderstand you when people just don’t necessarily agree with you.
