imogen2133 180
If Gaga continued to make the music she did during her Stefani/Pre Fame days like Red And Blue and around that time (No Floods, Wish You Were Here, Something Crazy, Hollywood, Wonderful) would you still be a fan?. If she never moved away from her classic/pop rock singer-songwriter roots into a more electro pop sound or never wore her crazy, eccentric outfits? PornoDanceFight 1,106
100% and she should go back to that sound for LG9 or 10 tbh. There’s something endearing and eclectic about those records that I think wouldn’t be so far removed from the soundscape she has created and since revisited with Mayhem. I love that you mentioned all those tracks bc I had literally all of them on an EP I made in iTunes and made my own graphic art for it back in high school… oh the memories… 2
Controversiaga 12,701
No. if it was team lovechild rob fusari retrosexual type music - YES . Mayhem actually calls back to that sound a lot imo Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
MountainMonster 1,524
No. It’s already taking all the grit I can muster to make it through every performance of Shallow as it is. The last thing I want is a large increase in acoustic balladry in her catalogue. now there are exceptions - Speechless, Future Love, ARUTW. But often I think her lyrical clunkiness is at its worst on some of her singer-songwriter style tracks (see “All You Need is Time”)

The closest is Private Audition to GOE but the retro sound on those early tracks is very different to the one on Mayhem imo. AVeryGagaHolyDick 29,107
She probably wouldn’t have made it big with that sound and image so we wouldn’t even know about her That said, I do love some of her early recordings. Some others aren’t very good imo By the way, it’s off topic but as much as I enjoy Brown Eyes, I’ll never understand why she put it on The Fame but not Wonderful instead? I don’t know, Wonderful makes more sense to me in the context of the album and what it means

But often I think her lyrical clunkiness is at its worst on some of her singer-songwriter style tracks (see “All You Need is Time”) I agree I hated having to sit through Shallow when I went to The Mayhem Ball (and Million Reasons) and I agree that the amount of adult contemporary music and ballads increasing in recent years is annoying and frustrating. However I also really like the ones from the early years of her career like you said (especially Speechless and Future Love which is one of my all time fav Gaga songs) and I think what made them special is the personal meanings and the contrast between them and what she was known for at the time (more electro pop big club hits) which showed a different side to her artistry and musicianship(plus they were just better then the ones now). I also loved when she would turn her big pop hits like Poker Face, Just Dance, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone and Born This Way into acoustic versions. To me that is more interesting and unique then a run of the mill ballad.

I don’t know, Wonderful makes more sense to me in the context of the album and what it means I agree 100% I do like some of the songs from that time but I don't think it would have stood out in the pop landscape and she would have probably stayed an underground indie act and I think she was aware of that on some level because I remember in interviews around 2011 she said that after she started making that singer songwriter stuff she saw other bands/acts in underground New York doing the same things and she said she wanted to do something revolutionary for her neighborhood which led to the Starlight revue act with her and Lady Starlight. I believe Katy Perry started out with a similar indie pop-rock sound and then changed to more pop with Teenage Dream as well. I also agree that Wonderful should have been on The Fame instead, I mean I like Brown Eyes but Wonderful is more emotional and fits the concept better. I will also never understand how something like Again Again made the cut instead of Vanity or Retro Physical or something else because it doesn't really fit tbh. Killa 18,316
Oh that far lol I like them, haven't listened tò captivated and her early "hits" in ages. I thought you meant dirty Rich rock show retro dance and those First fame endeavours. That Gaga that Is more cunning, doesn't mind being a bit dirty, Is a bit messy and lives for fraud. Before the more polished side and more hip hop and rnb leaning.
Agunimon 347
Generally no, but even as recent as the Fame, I tend to avoid that as well. In fact, I'm pretty sure the last time I even listened to The Fame in full was 7 years ago.

Hadrian 1,233
I don't think so. They were cute and showcased her immense talent, but it's not for me, at least not for my regular listening lol just to check out once in a while and be in awe of her talent. Like her Sound of Music performance. It's great and amazing... but I don't want that all the time. And if she never came out with Just Dance and Poker Face, I never would've started making music, so so i exhumed us beneath blue skies / the unbroken burden of my lies / refracted by the shimmer of your light
