He also states that its only right that all Nations that benefit from oil flow there should assist. Meanwhile most Nato members see it differently, that it is a war they never wanted in the first place and the US only needs help because it decided to start the conflict. Germany explicitly said that this war has nothing to do with Nato members Nato Nations are only required to assist when another Nato nation is attacked first. In this case the US made the first move so there is no NATO obligation, and it is up to each Country to decided if they want to get involved. Economy 52,845
I have to say, on the one hand I get that Trump says that the US disproportionately funds a higher share of NATO fire power than its share... Both on the other hand its also the Country that is always dragging other Nato Countries into war in the first place, so maybe without US conflicts, NATO wouldnt need as much spending in the first place?
Ladle Ghoulash 52,838
I mean, that’s what you get for both alienating your allies and entangling yourself in a stupid and constantly escalating regional war. FAFO. The US (Government not its people) gas light the sh*t out of the world tbh Its always the victim of being taken advantage of and other Countries not pulling their weight supposibly but its also the one always getting involved in conflicts that require funding and resources in the first place
elijahfan 27,484
Oh so now he wants NATO's help? After spending a year insulting and alienating each and every one of its members? Also, I thought he was the President that stopped wars in 24 hours Edited March 16 by elijahfan 2
FfFfFfFF 58,120
I think NATO countries are actually sure they don't want it.. But diplomatically, ''Bye bitch, you're on your own'' does not fit into the idiom. 5

I think they are stalling to not anger Trump with a flat out no but hoping conflict ends before they are needed And i dont blame them. Id do the same if I was being dragged into a war I wanted no part of but also didnt want to risk diplomatically angering a powerful Nation with a leader that has the emotional maturity of a toddler

I feel like Iran holding the Strait hostage was always part of the plan by the US in an attempt to drag NATO into the war. "Look you have to join or the world's oil supply will be screwed" Generous to assume there was a plan. The Trump admin seemed genuinely baffled that the Iranian state didn’t immediately collapse after the assassination of the ayatollah and clearly did not anticipate the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Lord Mayhem 3,428
Trump wants to strong arm NATO into WW3 and nobody is taking the bait...do you blame them? He and Bibi decided to attack Iran and gave the public no real explanation for what provoked it...Nuclear? Leadership? Oil? Etc... Of course NATO doesn't want to participate in Trump's war...he made a mess and now needs to clean it up. Spoiled rich man baby that he is will definitely throw a tantrum and make threats to increase tarrifs, block trade, etc only further isolating America as we self implode as this war is quickly crumbling our economy... 4
gagzus 23,077
Didnt NATO threaten the US after Trump said he was gonna go for Greenland anyway? Wars are so unnecessary in the first place. For example it feels racist af that the US thinks it’s ok for them to have nuclear weapons but not a country in the Middle East like come on… But then again ALL of the US’ wars are started over racist and Islamophobia anyway 2

They only want their allies to have nuclear weapons so they know they ultimately control the resources/region and I would argue racism is downstream of that. But I don’t think we can overlook that racism definitely is the reason why the power imbalance is so huge between countries like say the US & UK versus countries in the Middle East and Africa for example. It’s the fall out of Americans blaming EVERY Muslim for 9/11 sadly. With the exception of China almost all the big powers in the world are white lead countries who constantly cause wars with less well off nations too. The second someone has something that could make them equal in power people become scared that they’ll treat the big powers the way they’ve always treated them. Imagine if tomorrow a nation decided to start a war in the US over Trump and tried to take him out of leadership- that’s essentially what the US has consistently done I’m afraid.

I suppose, but I think the weaponization of racism as the downstream impact is really about getting the working class to buy into it, but I’d argue the primary motivation is about power and control and the racism component (as it is in many power hierarchies) is just about justifying the conquest. The nature of the US’ allies is more or less a consequence of British imperialism where, again, the racism is absolutely consequential, but I still think is fundamentally downstream of the desire to justify why their (primarily white) nation should be justified in exploiting other nations. It’s more of a causal argument than anything and a little bit of a soapbox moment, but that’s my two cents. Lucas 31,122
Trump needs to d word. The most surprising to me though is Italy, Meloni has been kissing Trump's ass for a while so for her to say the USA won't get help because they started this **** on their own was delightful to my ears.
