Yeah, that's what I was thinking. We often subconsciously associate actors with the typical roles they get and tend to think that if they keep getting these roles, they must be like this in real life.

I saw this thread yesterday while working and couldn't say anything, but I was so bothered by Thimothée's comment that I came back to leave my two cents on the matter, because I care about ballet and opera (clearly). An ignorant comment like that, coming from someone without knowledge of the subject, is understandable, even if reprehensible, but coming from someone who has chosen to live from art is absolutely sad. As an actor, he should know that even if opera and ballet are not directly consumed by many, they are an important source of inspiration for many other art forms, including cinema. They were born from the human desire to create, feel and express emotions that could not remain silent. And they continue to resist time because they connect us with our human essence. I feel very sorry for someone with so many resources available to have a brain the size of a chestnut.

I mean, whether you think he said something bad is entirely subjective. 

And people aren't exploding. They're just criticising a person who's made it beyond clear he craves artistic recognition yet feels it is perfectly acceptable to criticise art that doesn't serve capitalism. 
It's nothing to do with him being on top, it's the rampant hypocrisy. 

But also - the only thing that's going to bring him down from being at the top of the acting world is the fact we all now all know he supports Woody Allen's pedophilia.

but really that criticism is blown out of proportions. Is there anything harmful he said? Was he untruthful?

Just today there was an article on NYTimes how Met Opera is pretty much out of money. How is that a relevant business - if it survives only on rich investor’s money?
