Which Grammys Best New Artist Winner Dodged The Curse The Best?

We all probably know or heard about the so called Grammy's Best New Artist curse, many of them are not heard from again as soon as they win the category, or worse fall into tragedy.

But, exceptions happen sometimes, which one, on your own opinion, dodging the curse the best? Say have big successful, and/or quite long career, and even becomes MPG for a time? Names are below;

 

2000: Christina Aguilera

2002: Alicia Keys

2004: Evanescence

2005: Maroon 5

2006: John Legend

2007: Carrie Underwood

2009: Adele

2015: Sam Smith

2019: Dua Lipa

2020: Billie Eilish

2021: Megan Thee Stallion

2022: Olivia Rodrigo

2025: Chappell Roan

 

I am only including winners from 2000s to 2025 ones cos they 're the ones we know the most, while 2026 winner impact or longevity is still need to be seen.

I don't see a curse here, all of the names listed are still working today and are considered to be well established (taste aside, looking at you Maroon 5)

The curse is not that they stop working, the curse is that they win the award in the midst of a moment of massive commercial success and then their success disappears shortly after. And that is true for a few artists here to be sure. Generally though, I think the curse is overblown.

I feel like that's true of any new artist though. They have massive success when they are fresh on the scene and then they settle into their own niche. That's true for Gaga also

Still pissed Interscope screwed Gaga over a BNA nom (and probable win) in 2010. 
 

But to answer, Adele has absolutely dodged it, but that can only be confirmed by her NEXT record tbh imo.

Adele and Billie so far have truly had very amazing album cycles. 

Christina, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Evanescence are well know legacy acts that are respected in the industry regardless of what they’d release right now if it’s not a hit single.

Maroon 5 started as successful, Moves Like Jagger skyrocketed them into hit after hit makers and now every album gets worse than the previous one. 

Dua, Chappell, Megan and Olivia are still very new and we have yet to see what else they do with their music.

They should’ve waited to send in their noms for her because her popularity wasn’t as big at the beginning of 2009 compared to the end. 2009 was the year she became a megastar they could’ve easily waited to nominate Just Dance and Poker Face
