It's so typical of GagaDaily... Anyway. 2

Also, I believe this quote says more about Liza, or whoever her ghostwriter is, than it does about Gaga, and anyone with two functioning brain cells and a bit of honesty can see right through that. The overall panic and search for excuses I'm seeing in this thread really is uncalled for. It's not about searching for excuses, not on my part anyway, and I'm under no illusions about Gaga by the way. I think she's a great artist, but that great art doesn't come from sugar and spice and all things nice, nor does her ability to survive and thrive in a very tough industry. I am interested in how this is going to play out. I am interested in seeing how much publicity the book gets when it's published in March and what, if anything, Gaga does about it. Y’all need to stop catastrophizing lol With all due respect to Liza, very few people under 70 are going to care to read her memoir let alone obsess over one story in it. I’m a bit of a Studio 54/Warhol obsessive myself and I don’t even know if I’d be interested. I’m sure Gaga isn’t the only celeb in it with low key shade thrown at them. I hope LG didn’t actually do anything to disrespect Liza, but throwing other people under the bus to look like a hero doesn’t really fit with her overall personality in both public and almost every account from fans and random encounters. Finally it is totally possible like others said Liza wanted to appear more dignified/capable then she did and let off general blame steam as a result. My 90 year old uncle thinks he can come down the stairs by himself. He can’t. If it were up to him he’d still be trying to drive. Liza has been in and out of a wheelchair iirc for years. Maybe it just wasn’t working out with the director’s chair and she was embarrassed. The writer may have chosen to stress the incident if he doesn’t care for Gaga. Who knows?

Thank the lord this newer wave of pop stars and artists are trying to be a community and support each other. Edith Piaf was inspired by others. Madonna was inspired by others. Michael Jackson was inspired by others. We could play this game all day. With music. With film and television. With books. With paintings. Nothing is truly 100% original. Using writing Liza’s memoir to air out your salty opinions of Gaga is WILDLY more trashy than Gaga admitting to being inspired by/embodying those who came before her. To create art, firstly an artist becomes inspired. anyone criticizing this has simply never created.

It is Liza Minnelli's memoir, it is due to be published in March, and the bit about Gaga is pretty savage. This book has been written by Michael Feinstein, not Liza. It is based on 10 years of stories and interviews as told to Feinstein. I agree with the OP. I think the savagery is likely to have emanated from Feinstein and not from Liza. this is making absolutely no noise outside of this website or even stan twitter nobody cares and this'll be old news by monday mother, what must i do? The parts that are “defamatory” (ie the shadiest) are totally subjective (“Gaga didn’t miss the opportunity to play the hero,” which is passive aggressive/eyeroll-y at best). The most harmful insinuation you could infer would be that Gaga forced Liza into the wheelchair in order to make herself look benevolent, but nowhere is that correlation explicitly made, nor is her rationale for allegedly insisting Liza use the wheelchair mentioned, so absent that throughline being made explicit, there’d basically be no case to be made for defamation. Also I don’t really think most people would read the account presented in that uncharitable of a light, so the allegation of harm on Gaga’s part in a hypothetical defamation case would be weakened by that as well. The exact quote is that Gaga 'didn't miss a beat to play the kindhearted hero for all the world to see'. I think that's saying that Gaga was pretending to be kindhearted when she was actually being cynical and self-serving. It's ok to think that, but I don't know if it's ok to publish it in a book. I await developments. Maybe there'll be none. Maybe the story will be dead in a couple of days and maybe the book won't make a splash when it comes out, but I remain interested. Uncharitably characterizing someone else’s behavior isn’t even close to being defamatory. I anticipate that, if Gaga does anything, she’d likely just reach out to Liza and clarify her intentions. There is absolutely no way she pursues legal action over this and she would look insanely petty if she did. Gaga Scholar 232
From Liza's perspective, it probably really sucked to feel like she felt and THEN to read stories the next day about how sweet Gaga was to this old lady at the Oscars. It would definitely feel minimizing. I can see how that was hurtful. The last phase of life often is watching other people take over your life and your narrative...if we're lucky enough to age, we'll all be in Liza's shoes someday. Whomp, whomp. Edited February 24 by Gaga Scholar I misspelled "lucky." Jeesh. "The truth is..." --L. Gaga, 1986-present
iamnotladygaga 70
Hes kind of just using her platform to spread that about gaga as if he said that everyone would be like it’s sad as Liza Minnelli herself might not have had much of a say in the memoir.
