I loved Witness and I genuinely think it deserved better.

It’s also Katy’s only album to try something entirely different, deeper, both sonically and lyrically, yet everyone was too focused on her haircut :saladga:

She deserved more success with this one in my opinion.

This was the LAST katy record I really enjoyed and one I still play from time to time (along with Waking Up In Vegas) while I pay dust to the rest of her discography! Feels older than 9 years though.

Maybe. I can't stand Roar, Firework, Dark Horse, ET... but this one is surprisingly so listenable. Also what's happy

We could also talk about how Katy being called out of touch was largely due to her being white, but people aren't ready for that conversation.

What? People didn't like her new looks, she had to stop working with Dr Luke because of the rape drama and she heavily relied on him to get hits, it was her 3rd album in a row using the same sound and people grew bored of her, pop music was starting to die, she also shaded Britney a bunch of times which got her some backlash, she was trying too hard to go viral and people noticed and reacted poorly to it...

There are many reasons to Katy's downfall but her being white isn't one of them lol

Yes of course lol, for all of Katy Perry's faults she did release a slew of back to back hits with her first few albums :huntyga:

Just nothing since...

The OP I was responding to was claiming that Witness was the last album she had hit after hit… I just don’t think we can call anything from Witness a hit.

I agree with all of this (except for the same sound thing when it comes to Witness), but a lot of people did react negatively to her because of her being white. I am a leftist through and through do not get it twisted, but I've seen the hate she got and this was a part of it. So many people have said that because she was privileged and white that she didn't have the right to speak on political issues because she was out of touch. People like Todd in the Shadows and his fanbase of hammered this home a lot. It sucks because she can't speak. The razor thin line we are seeing straight white women have to walk on to support social issues is getting to be too much. It's misogyny that can apply to some women because "oh well they are privileged so it's fine to say this".

EDIT: I should add that I am in fact aware that there are times when white women get passes that women of color wouldn't, and yes that is a huge problem. There are still times though when people are limiting left leaning white womens opinions on social issues too much. That has to end.
