I knew she wasn’t successful anymore, but 20M in 3 months???

That song is a step in the right direction tbh, but damn, I feel that underground artists pull better numbers sometimes…

Her fans are loud but rare, it seems.

A really solid pop song. Sadly everyone has written her off after so many missteps in her career.

Tbf, Big music stars reaching highs then dying relatively quickly i think has long been the norm

She just seems like this extreme example cuz we had this odd aberation where an unusually large number of major stars that came out from 2007 to 2012 lasted a lot longer than is typical

Go look at the top 10 most listened to artists on spotify. Most of the list is still ppl from 15 years ago. That generation refuses to die from music domination, and Katie is one of the ones that didnt make it :enigma:

It wouldn’t seem as insane if Teenage Dream pulled numbers more like OOTB or Prism. Her chart success began to fade in her early 30’s, which is perfectly normal for a standard pop star.

Teenage Dream is the phenomenon in the situation. Her trajectory is a rather average age-biased one.

Unfortunately the song is just extremely forgettable radio fodder. I dont think anyone remembers it even after 20 minutes later after listening to it.

The reason her fellow late 00s pop stars lasted and she hasn’t simply comes down to artistry.

She's a pop singer, her biggest hits were made for her.

Meanwhile the acts who broke through the same time as her like Gaga/Swift etc were the main driving force behind their music from the start.

Its way easier to build a lasting fanbase, especially now, if there's a full package available for fans and an artist to root for.

Industry produced pop stars always fizzle out and fail to adapt in time because they don't have an authentic self created brand image.
