Well, this is it! When you say you want her to experiment more, this is the result of that! Not every performance will be fully choreographed with 15 backup dancers. This is like when people freaked out about the Disease video because it wasn't Gaga looking like every other blonde pop star doing a full-on routine. Some of y'all will never accept—much less enjoy—the experimental/weird Gaga that you want her to be. The arrangement was great (I need this version of Abra on streaming asap!), the camera movements and her poses were immaculate, and she looked f*cking incredible. A great performance and a great way to reimagine Abra. I've been getting frustrated at this too, but recently I had an epiphany. The people who complain are two different groups of people, not the same ones acting contradictory. There's one group that wants the experimental avant garde stuff, and one group who want simple, digestible pop stuff. And each group becomes vocal when they don't get what they want. So yes, the fanbase as a whole is demanding unrealistic, contradictory things of her. But we aren't one hivemind, there are factions within our fandom that can be very.. loud I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

bpmMonkey 6,796
Didn't really like it tbh. I'm not a big fan of the "goofy" rock (don't know how to put it, it's also 6:50am, but in the beginning the more Bowie-esque guitars, iykyk). Her energy was top, outfit really cvnt and song choice also made sense, since Abra is a huge part of Mayhem and she released it a year ago at the Grammys, still I could have done with a different song - then again, this comes from a person who has seen every performance of hers multiple times, so i guess to a regular person Abra still feels as exciting as it did to me half a year ago 😅 anywhosels! Great night for mother. Can't wait to see what's next 💖 (btw, they did a great job, to anybody who says they are yearning for a Rock/Metal sound from Gaga 🤭 )
BadKid58 351
If this is a indicator of what's coming in Mayhem: Requiem (and maybe her next album), I can't freaking wait!

princedeeblebleble 2,451
Vocals and the production were ****ing INSANE! The fit? STUNNING! the presence? OTHERWORDLY! It's giving what she wanted to do.by making all the songs ala Perfect celebrity and it makes me so happy to get this side of her like she doesn't need an army of dancers and **** to make a preformance great, this is Lady ****ing Gaga! I just wish the camera angles didn't look like they didn't have time to rehearse them, they were pure Mayhem but in a not so gr8 way 😅 5

Chris Thomason 967
We need more of this, this was everything. She has and will always be a rock star at heart contrary to the music she puts out.

anomdepllume 400
Glad she did a different version, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't just a little disappointed that this was another Abracadabra performance. I mean, it's the nominated song, etc etc, and I will admit it does bookend the album cycle nicely, what with the song premiering at the Grammys last year, but it's been a whole year of Abracadabra being the only (?!) real single off of this record. I liked having Gaga on the synths, and the sharp cuts to the band (Hi Josh Freese lol, had a real moment with that as a huge NIN fan), and I LOVE an archival McQueen moment (2009 Horn of Plenty show, one of my faves!), but it felt like it had one foot in trying to just be a performance of the song, and the other foot in trying to do something different and memorable. Was it bad? Not at all. Her vocals were insane, I thought even standing still the energy and charisma were there, but I don't know if this performance sold Mayhem to people who weren't already on board, or pleased any fans looking for something other than "Abracadabra TV performance again". Mixed bag for me!
popkulture 419
Obsessed with this. Pure poetry and absolutely brilliant. I'm relieved we didn't get what we expected from Abra. Nobody else is can wear archival McQueen and give vocals + theatrics - only Gaga can do this. Anyone complaining about this performance - go watch Tate McCrae on youtube or something to entertain you with choreography and the generic definition of a pop star. No shade to her, she's great, but how can you complain about Gaga and her art? This is Gaga at her roots; against the tides, unexpected, and intentional. 7
TheFrenchGuy 2,684
Love it. So so good. to me the hat with the eye symbolized Mayhem as an all seeing / ever-lurking presence. No matter where you hide (the camera angles) or how dark it is, she’s always looking. I especially loved the shot of her reflection on the floor and her shadow with Andrew Watt. Very poetic and a cool callback to the end of the music video. Loved the subtle approach with her musicianship on full display. sorry to say but people who aren’t satisfied with this performance on a conceptual level just can’t read art beyond aesthetics Edited Monday at 06:32 AM by TheFrenchGuy 2
