NYC to Chicago is, what? The entirety of Ukraine and then some?

The American right and center like to project this image of homogeny here but it's such a lie. Our nation is built by, with, and for people of literally every background. Slaves, immigrants, refugees, natives, colonists, and more.

The consequence is that you'll find virtually every human culture that still exists somewhere within our borders and that's honestly such a point of pride we Americans can have.

Remove the government and corporations and the US is such a beautiful place

Exactly! Like no shade, but you could actually reasonably see multiple countries in Europe within a week’s time while not being able to see a fraction of the continental US in that same period.

Couldn’t agree more about the plurality of American culture being a source of pride, btw. It’s one of the cornerstones of our culture and **** anyone that tries to deny, interfere with, or change that.

Gaga won 1 more award than I expected cause I fully expected them to snub her everywhere else outside of dance pop recording :laughga:

AOTY is the least surprising result of the night. Anyone expecting MAYHEM to win are just as deluded as people like me who genuinely believed Born This Way had any chance against 21 fourteen years ago :traumatica:

Also isn't this like Billie's 4th or 5th time winning SOTY? And in only 6 years wtf why do they keep licking her ass :wtf:

I mean, I think it’s fairly well-established that many Americans are geographically illiterate lol. I just think it’s funny that some Europeans get offended by the “We vacationed in Europe!” thing while simultaneously doing something very similar about the US (either compressing the size, diversity, culture, or politics). And you’re not wrong about the systematic othering of LATAM people in the US and LATAM in general by Trump, but I think that’s what Morphine Prince was getting at about propaganda not matching the truth on the ground.

oh absolutely, i think the only thing i will say is it's quite ridiculous to think that the whole ICE situation didn't have ANYTHING to do with the win. It should be noted that the committee took the opportunity to vote for a Latino musician when the Latinx community is baring the brunt of the stuff to do with ICE from what i've seen.

Did the album deserve it's win? For me personally no, i would've picked Kendrick over BB  if it wasn't Gaga but i'm not on the committee but did the GRAMMY voters evidently vote for it because they loved it? absolutely. But as we know people on the committee absolutely don't JUST vote for the best stuff musically they absolutely took the current political climate into consideration. So i think both sides have merit, but also fans need to stop being racist as well.

I'm personally more peeved at the ROTY loss when (like i said in a previous post) Cirkut won POTY primarily for his work on Mayhem, and ROTY goes more on overall production. So realistically she should've won ROTY or AOTY since it makes sense for the producer of the year to be the producer of either the best record or the best album.

I don’t disagree. I think people forget that the Grammys are an institution and that their choices do have cultural/political impact, so they absolutely weighed that when voting. I think the reason why people recoil at the political angle is they feel like it’s an attempt to delegitimize it when I think, on some level, it’s just a reality. That being said, some folks were trying to make it seem like BB is irrelevant because he’s not as big in Europe, in spite of him being huge in the US/LATAM, which just feels silly, tbh.

I loved her performance so much tonight but I gotta say I was very underwhelmed by her acceptance speech. She didn’t really thank the fans who’ve stuck with her all these years and didn’t use her platform to call out injustices or at least try and bring hope and unity during this current administration. I guess we are really all just being used as pawns in a capitalist system now with the $1000 floor seats and endless brand partnerships. I still love her art and music but I miss her old heart.

I agree in terms of the speech. Felt like one of the most generic speeches of the entire night

Ngl the entire night was a disapointment for me regarding Gaga

#1 No major category win yet again. I knew there was a high chance she wouldnt win AOTY and SOTY but i admit i had small hopes for ROTY. Not shocked she didnt win any but i did have small hopes for at least one of the 3 main categories

#2 I did not like the performance very much at all personally. It seems many are liking it tho so im glad its not universally being seen as a bad one

#3 the speech were talking about. Its was very basic and not that deep tbh.

My main solace is that at least she won 2 more regular category grammys. Better than winning none!

I dont think gaga would ever be awarded a general field win let alone aoty. Love for sale getting a nom was out of respect for tony and they even snubbed her then. And now with mayhem. They aint ever giving her a general field

yeah it absolutely is ridiculous, I mean people forget that Gaga's actually bigger in Japan than she is in the US and Europe in general. Plus would we call Kylie Minogue irrelevant because she's not big in the US but is in Europe/Aus? Of course not.

I figured either Bad Bunny or Kendrick would take it. I really do feel like there was a split between how pop fans felt about Mayhem and about how the GP did. It was overall well-liked, but I don't think a lot of GP folks feel like it was that culturally important this year, particularly here in the US, for whatever reason.

Not that the Grammys are always great about rewarding cultural relevance. But even then, especially after rewarding Die With A Smile so much and debuting Abracadabra last year, I just got the vibe they weren't going to continue the Gaga hit parade with wins this year.

I still believe if she'd campaigned Vanish Into You for stuff this year, it would have won more. But I'm delusional, lol.

maybe she had another speech prepared because she thought she might win one of the big ones? I mean loads of publications thought she was gonna get AOTY, she even had an outfit change for this part of the show and had the ICE pin in her hair bow.

Yeah. And i said it many times and ill say it again

Grammys is a US based award show as are its voters. Its not the Eurovision

It does not really matter if Gaga is bigger in EU, Japan, Australia or Canada than say Kendrick or Bad Bunny. What matters is US impact cuz thats the home market of the Recording Academy and thats where the voters are based off of as well

Ive heard the WW impact argument more times than I can count but its literally compeltely irrelevant to the Grammys. Has anyone seen the nominees? Its almost exclusively artists that matter in the US. Even if they arent American, they have to at least be known or have hits in America

yeah i often see British fans ask why we don't get GRAMMY noms and the regional aspect is why. We have the BRITS which while not as big internationally is legit our version of the GRAMMYs essentially, and we nominate primarily british artists. People like Lola and Charli are lucky because their songs catch on in the US. Same can be said for Kylie, she could and SHOULD have loads of GRAMMYs for excellent albums and songs but sadly she's just not well known enough in the US. CGYOOMH and Padam Padam and that's probably it

Its possible. But imo id avoid leaving important messages for the bigger win that u may not get.

Anyway she didnt say anything bad, cringy or anything to get upset about. Its just that usually she has one of the best speeches and this time she was actually one of the artists with the most forgetable generic plain toast speeches :enigma:

If i were Gaga id get the political speech out of the way on first win (since theres no guarantee shed win a bigger award), and if she did win SOTY or AOTY she could focus on how great an honour it was to her since she never won those awards and she worked so hard on the album

This was her 16th win if a regular category. She didnt really need to do a career speech for that one especially one so plain. But again, not that serious, just a missed oppurtunity i feel

I also thought maybe she had a bigger statement speech planned for winning other bigger awards. It was good to see the Ice Out pin in her hairbow though (I'm imagine it was probably difficult to get one to stick to the Materie Fecale dress from the carpet lol)

Surprised of how nervous she gets everytime she wins like it’s the first time! A bit disapointed about the speech but oh well, I guess she will adress about ICE on the US shows as she did the other day.

so sad about her loosing all the biggest ones but happy she’s with 16 grammys alredy
