Moldova, Ukraine completely cut off Transnistria from Russian military supplies

Euromaidan Press reports that Ukraine and Moldova have imposed a total blockade on the so-called Transnistria. All checkpoints have been closed, and the movement of goods and people is now only possible following rigorous inspections.

Approximately 1,500 Russian soldiers have been caught in the blockade, losing access to fuel, equipment, provisions, and rotations. "Gray" routes no longer exist: any movement is strictly contingent on the authorization of both states.

In the 2020s, Russia lost multiple satellite states and friendly regimes across the world, to the point there is a pattern of weaning influence outside its direct borders:

- 2023: the Republic of Artsak was absorbed by Azerbaijan/ Armenia lessened its dependece on Russia, which decreased Russia's influence in the Caucasus;

- late 2024: pro-Russian Assad regime in Syria fell, Russia lost its main base of influence in the Middle East;

- early 2026: pro-Russian Maduro regime in Venezuela fell, Russia lost its main base of influence in LATAM.

Russian influence is falling fast. The thing with Armenia is that Russia would run the risk of pissing off the Stans (not using pop terms), so Putin had to be largely silent on that issue aside from using some ceremonial "peace keeping" forces. In an ideal world for a Russian nationalist Azerbaijan would've stayed in CSTO instead of Armenia. This would've made things a lot easier for Putin eventually. In fact, Putin technically had the opportunity to do this with the worsening relations with Armenia combined with the improving relations with Turkey, but then the shoot down of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 in December 2024 did major damage to Russias relations with Azerbaijan.

I also think Russia lacked the resources to defend Armenia or Artsak, simply because it was too invested in Ukraine. In its calculus, Russia decided it's more important to extend its core territory than to protect satellites or allied regimes abroad. Transnistria is useful to Moscow, but it may be less useful than Eastern Ukraine, as it's far away, lacking a land border/connection, plus Russia denied various proposals of annexing Transnistria (which Transnistria itself wanted), because, to Russia, Transnistria is more important as a Trojan horse inside the Republic of Moldova than an annexed territory.
