i have no idea what shes talking about in babylon.
i get it. babble on.
battle for your life, 16th century smile, party like it's BC, serving ancient city style, him you and me, babylon, tower of babel, walk a mile
like what the hell is she talking about :toofunny: she references a hundred things from entirely different times/places, i have no idea how all of it is connected

the whole album is a mess and the fact that shes not even credited as a producer even though she seemed very involved before that certain producer insisted on reworking everything says it all

a couple more since im here
enigma is soooo underrated. it captures that house essence perfectly and i love how abstract the imagery on the lyrics are (free woman being basically "i'm a free woman" a hundred times. literally scheibe+black jesus with anemia)
besides like 4 songs, most of the lyrics are cringeworthy. marina ass songwriting
love 911 MV but the coloring is kinda bad :alsemanche: when she dropped that behind the scenes I thought that maybe B&W would fit/look way better
sine from above is one of her worst released songs, but the last 30 seconds are some of the best things she ever put out
not sure if unpopular opinion but by far her best booklet design
bloodpop deserves jail for gaslighting us into thinking that babylon early version is the actual early version when is just the half baked instrumental used for haus labs with the album acapella copied and pasted on top

I don't think Bloodpop deserves the hate he gets because he really is a stellar producer with a very clear vision for what he thinks a pop song should sound like. It's not his fault that he was running up a hill to make a deal with God(ga) to get something on a track. Also the "Bloodclot" names etc., have always been in very poor taste imo :triggered:

The demo versions would not have saved the studio versions of any of these tracks.

I think Chromatica has some of her strongest vocal performances, even if they come from a depressed, lithium induced state.

Babylon (Haus Labs) is overrated BOOTS, and the album version + Bree Runway remix remain superior.

I think there was a lot more she planned or thought about for this album that just never happened and the album cover would make so much more sense if we got all that material too. I remember being jaw-dropped by the cover when first seeing it, but it now is sorta confusing to look at in hindsight because there is so much to decode from it and nothing really from the album or era to make it all make sense.

I think that’s kind of the point. It’s a Tower of Babel reference, so everything is intentionally mixed and chaotic, like different languages and eras colliding. Gaga talking through a mess of references actually feels pretty on brand and deliberate IMO

That take is so tired though. BloodPop finished the album because Gaga was profoundly depressed and unable to work by then.

Not sure I have an unpopular opinion on the album. I consider it her worst like many people here. I find it interesting that I didn't like it ever since day one (:stalkga:), but felt very alone having this opinion back then, and now way more people are saying this.

With that said, there are a few, not many because the rest is sh*t, but a few songs that I consider to be very high in her discography. On the other hand, MAYHEM is a better album overall but none of the songs really stands out.

Alice has potential, but it’s not finished. Mid asf.

Honestly, most of the album sounds like a demo tape.

It’s also all, arguably, pretty firmly set in one time and place, which is 16th century BC in Babylon (which, although the Tower of Babel likely never existed, is a time period in which the ancient city of Babylon did exist) [to your other point about the purposeful mixing of eras, it could also be referring to Elder’s famous painting of the Tower of Babel, which was painted in the 16th century CE]. The only anachronism (which is really more of a historical juxtaposition) is the ballroom/vogueing references, but the song is basically using the Tower of Babel (a common mythic symbol of people being incapable of understanding each other) and the ancient city of Babylon as a metaphor for people talking ****/refusing to understand each other being as old as time and needing to accept that fact and rise above it.

-There are no GREAT songs on this album.

-The only songs worth occasionally revisiting are Rain On Me, Enigma, Babylon & maybe Replay.

-The album cover is beautiful in theory, but it is ruined by the ugly outfit & ugly, mismatching shoes. Idc about any backstory for the stylistic choices there, it’s a visual eyesore. Could have been breathtaking if she were naked/wore a more simplistic outfit.

-Alice is overrated.

-911 is a bad, bad song.

-There is no “transition” from Chromatica II to 911.  It’s a long, extended intro, chopped into it’s own track & called an interlude. Of course they blend into each other well. The hype/memes over this “transition” drove me ****ING crazy when the album released lol

-Plastic Doll Ashnikko remix obliterates the original track.

-Blackout19 made me more appreciative of Free Woman 💚

If it wasn’t for Covid, Chromatica would have been a big era. It’s her most visually compelling album up until the 911 video… which is good but it just doesn’t live in the same universe as Stupid Love and Rain on Me.

Sour Candy is a waste of space on the album. I’ll never understand why the need for a BLACKPINK collaboration was necessary. It’s so repetitive, overrated, sounds like Swish Swish, and it’s a lackluster song.

CHROMATICA should’ve been titled Free Woman and it should’ve had the sound of the ORIGINAL demo. The 90’s pop sound would’ve been so amazing and the whole theme of the tribes was a choice the way the Enigma character was for the residency in Vegas.

Now, the CHROMATICA BALL should’ve been kept to the original rumored jungle theme to go along with the album’s aesthetic. The show we got seemed like a festival set or was mainly for the GP…but everything happened the way it was supposed to and now here we are. :enigma:
